grsecurity R.I.P.

Dear everyone, perhaps someone has already brought this up on the list, but I'll dig it a bit anyways. As I'm sure many of the people on the list are already aware, grsecurity has gone closed source with their stable branch. While grsecurity is far from dead, the fact that the stable version is now only available to paying customers does change the scene somewhat. It also reminds us that open source does not guarantee endless availability. Despite all the great innovations the grsecurity team has come up with, the "solution" of having to (individually) patch each and every new kernel version was never a real solution anyways. What I would personally love to see is Linux kernel running on/in Genode. I know it's very different from running a micro kernel, and I know it would require lots of work - but then again, the past situation with grsecurity (and other tweaks) required hell of a lot of work anyways. I'm actually working on a little thingy based on OpenBSD, and would be interested in leading a task force with the goal of making both BSD and Linux kernels run on Genode. tz_vmm demo on USB Armory

Hello, I run tz_vmm demo on USB Armory as described in this Article <http://genode.org/documentation/articles/usb_armory> it displays log messages (see on the attached ) and hangs. The tz_vmm start the virtual machine (Linux) but I couldn't get a Linux shell to run Linux commands so i have no chance to access the root file system on the SD_card (non-secure). it could be a ridiculous question but please tell me what is missing? Hello list, I am working on porting libuv right now, which is the event loop backend for Node.js, though I need libuv for different project. I had looked a little into porting Node, but after using the language I am less than ethusiastic about it. However, if there someone else who is interested in coordinating on a Node port then now would be a good time. The V8 javascript engine looks like it may be less effort than libuv, with that and libuv out of the way Node may not be too difficult. Cheers, Emery

[Fiasco.OC][Genode] Creating an unstripped image file

Dear all, I was wondering if there was an option to create an unstripped image from my application over fiasco.oc kernel. I am starting to use Genode platform and was trying to follow the hello app tutorial defined in the Genode Operating System Framework 15.05 manual and trying to run it using Qemu but need to enable the debug symbols to be able to debug why the app doesn't load successfully on Qemu using gdb. Upgrade to 15.11 from 15.02 results in quota exceded message

Hi, I just upgraded from 15.02 to 15.11 and ran my base-hw based os and applications, which have been running for some time on 15.02. The changes made during the update were to the directory structure required by the "platform" changes and gpio driver changes to accomodate the removal of the wait_for_irq method. immediately after init starts I get a "quota execeeded"mesage: Starting kernel ... kernel initialized Genode 15.11 <local changes> int main(): --- create local services --- int main(): --- start init --- int main(): transferred 501 MB to init int main(): --- init created, waiting for exit condition --- Quota exceeded! amount=12288, size=12288, consumed=12288 [init -> uart_drv] int main(int, char**): --- OMAP3 UART driver started --- [init -> ctrl_module] --- Beaglebone Control Module Server --- [init -> platform_drv] --- bbb platform driver running --- [init -> pwm_drv] --- am33xx pwm driver --- . , , No changes have been made to available ram constants in board_base so I'm confused as to what caused this message to be generated. Did I miss a change to how quota's are requested and managed? Any help would be greatly appreciated Bob

RSA key pair generation in tz_vmm

Dear, I'm currently modifying tz_vmm to use openssl (librcrypto) to generate RSA key pair on i.mx53 QSB. (That is, RSA key pair is generated inside the Secure World.) Whenever I try to execute the following code, the error occurs. Debugging Genode applications on Ubuntu 14.04 64bit

Hi Everyone, While developing applications for Genode I sometimes run into bugs and issues where a debugger would be of great help to figure out what I'm doing wrong. Reading Genode Foundations section 4.7.2 the GDB monitor approach seems to be exactly what I'm looking for. So when I try the gdb_monitor build-process as described at http://genode.org/documentation/developer-resources/gdb I get the following error message: $ make app/gdb_monitor checking library dependencies... Library-description file gdbserver_platform.mk is missing Digging a little deeper it seems I do have this file, however it's not available for my platform (Ubuntu Linux 14.04 64bit). Searching the web for this issue I find a post from May 2014 (http://sourceforge.net/p/genode/mailman/message/32372505/) which seems to be the issue I'm running into. The proposed solution is to use 32bit Linux. What I could do is setup a VM with 32bit Linux and do my debugging here. However I prefer doing my debugging at my workstation natively without switching to a VM whenever I run into an issue. So I wondered whether there is any way to do my gdb debugging on a 64bit workstation. Did I miss a source which explains how to do things on a 64bit system? Is a gdb_monitor for 64bit Linux on it's way? Would there be any way to use the gdb-monitor for 32bit Linux on my 64bit system? Is there another system in place for 64bit debugging? i.mx53qsb and ARM Trustzone Techology

Hi >From the article in this link http://genode.org/documentation/articles/trustzone , I understood that the DDR RAM in i.mx53 QSB is partitioned off between normal world and secure world. I just want to read a file in the normal world from application running in the secure side. Is there any possibility to get access to any file in normal world from the secure world? thanks for your help in advance. Regards, Joseph

ARM TrustZone Shared Memory Crossworld

Hi, currently we're working with the TrustZone VMM example from Genode based on Genode 15.05 on i.MX53 QSB. We have a shared buffer in normal world, which we want to use for cross-world communication. Currently the buffer is allocated using mmap MAP_SHARED | MAP_ANON. We're having strange issues/problems/inconsistencies when accessing the memory range in Genode (secure world) after normal world has written to it. We read that uncached memory should be used for this, or the cache lines have to be flushed/invalidated. However, apparently we can't get either of these options working. So our questions as follows: 1) We use mmap(NULL, <size>, PROT_READ|PROT_WRITE, MAP_SHARED|MAP_ANON, -1, 0) to allocate the buffer in normal world (Linux). Is there a better way to allocate uncached memory? 2) We've tried __cpuc_flush_user_all(), __cpuc_flush_kern_all() in order to invalidate all cache lines (later maybe only the affected cache lines once this works in general). Is this correct, to do this in normal world (i.e. Linux)? 3) At the moment we assume that Genode doesn't have to invalidate/flush its cache lines because as it is the VMM it should be aware of the fact that the cache might be stale. Any help is appreciated. A short hint: Currently our idea is to send an hypercall to the Genode VMM after Linux has written to the buffer, so Genode will pretty quickly access the memory after it has been written to from Linux. Turmvilla Memory

Hello all, Today I tried to run the latest Turmvilla configuration on a Lenovo X250 laptop (Nova 64bit kernel). However, although the machine has 16GB of of memory only 1942MB is transferred to init, see the log below. Does anyone have an idea what could cause this behaviour?
