Hello! I'm running netperf TCP_STREAM and TCP_MAERTS tests for lxip stack and i obtained extremely low result - 5x10^6 bits/s while the maximum throughput is 1000 mbit/s . I wonder what could be the reason for that. Anna

PingPong Example for the LWIP

Hello, i am still new to the Genode so maybe you will find that my question is silly but i tried to run the PingPong example but i failed i build the Genode for base_linux i enabled the libport repository fron the build.conf then i prepare for the PKG=Lwip from the build directory i tried to run the server as next make run/test-ping_server and it is run successfully. when i try to do that for the client i could not success i hope some one can help .. i am sure i need to change in some values but actually i couldn't know where . -- *Mohammad*

Creating your first Genode application - Build succesful, but execution fails

Hello, I tried to run the genode tutorial. I first installed it on an AMD Athlon x64 with nForce4- Mainboard. run/demo stopped there after init -> nitpicker] create session with args: label="launchpad", ram_quota=12288 I made a second try on a) a virtualBox machine with brand new installation of Unbuntu 12.04 x64 (git) and b) an old Evo N610c Pentium 4 with Ubuntu 12.04 x86 (14.02 from tar.gz of latest releases) I think a few Steps are missing within the Step-By-Step tutorial http://genode.org/documentation/developer-resources/client_server_tutorial As a prestep for “Setting up the build environment” i created a new build directory with './tool/create_builddir linux_x86 BUILD_DIR=build.hello'. As i did not have a lot of files in it, I tried a first ‘make’. In build/etc/build.conf I added REPOSITORIES += $(GENODE_DIR)/hello_testIn the bin directory i created a new config directory with config file. The server section seems to have only one .h file, I put the three listings in one main.cc file (as later in the document it is mentioned that in target.mk SCR_CC = main.cc an obviously no includes to the other files are given). Afterwards i tried ‘make hello’ which returned no error. With ‘cd run’, ‘./core’ only the following output appered: |int main(): --- create local services --- |int main(): --- start init --- |int main(): transferred 17592186044415 MB to init |int main(): --- init created, waiting for exit condition --- |[init] _map_local: lx_mmap failed (addr_in=0,addr_out=ffffffffffffffed/-19) overmap=0 |[init] C++ runtime: Genode::Rm_session::Region_conflict |[init] void* abort(): abort called If i try to run it again with dmesg the follwoing output appears: [ 4774.659901] core[12189]: segfault at 7f2ed162e068 ip 00000000010310c9 sp 00000000400ffce0 error 4 in core[1000000+5b000] (equal if i try git verison or archive version) I also tried to point the repository to the already existing hello_tutorial, but get the same result. Open vSwitch possible use, thoughts

Greetings All, I hope that everyone is doing well today. Currently, I am working my way through NOVA+Genode+VirtualBox with good success thus far, but still a long ways to go as I would like to implement the Sigma0 and Tutor (from the old NOVA 0.3 Demo) under Genode in the Nitpicker GUI. While being able to boot the VirtualBox VMM and also knowing that networking is still under development, I searched around and came a cross, what I think might be a "possible" good solution. I found Open vSwitch (http://openvswitch.org/) and wanted to see what your thought were on this as it might be a good solution to allow for multiple VirtualBox VM's to be running under NOVA & Genode. hello, my name is alif, I'm from Computer Engineering, EEPIS. I just start learning about gnode and really interested about this framework. What I want to ask is I've interested with this article http://genode.org/documentation/articles/pandaboard I've download and unpack the image onto my SD Card. Is there any steps before I can boot this image on my pandaboard? I've tried using minicom just like when using linux on pandaboard. But it won't initialized. Please help me.

Then my answers are given below: * Which version of Genode are you using? We're using version 13.02. * Are you using Qt4 or Qt5? (If you are still using Qt4, I would recommend you to switch to Qt5) Qt 4.7.4 was using. I tried to replace Qt4 with Qt5, but failed. The reason maybe the ways I used are wrong because of my lack of knowledge about that. So, could you give me some tips or tutorial about Qt4's updating to Qt5? Sorry to bother you, Norman. * Which Genode base platform are you using? Fiasco.OC, because our prototype and research are all based on microkernel architecture till now. * Have you tried to run your GUI application on base-linux? If yes, have you compared its performance to the same application compiled for native Linux w/o Genode? I would like to carry some experiments before giving an answer to you. * On base-linux, you could use normal Linux profiling tools such as oprofile to find out where the CPU time goes. It's good way, but I should consider how to make sure that Fiasco.OC-based Genode's performance is improved. * Can you make a Git branch with your application publicly available (e.g., on Github) so that I could give it a try? By being able to reproduce the problem, I could help you much better with investigating the issue. The mouse cannot work when I ran demo

Hi all, I met a problem when I ran "demo" on Ubuntu which installed on MACBOOK PRO with VMWare Fusion. The mouse didn't show up and the log printed below. I have tried to change the size of Ring_buffer but it didn't work. What should I do to fix that? Arbitrary msg!! "Thread failed"

Hello all, Two instances have cropped up. The base-hw kernel which loaded quite perfectly till two runs back suddenly fails to load. It does't even boot init anymore. It prints the error "failed to communicate thread event". This is very sudden and quite shocking. Could it be a h/w fault? Prior to this, we ran a sample gpio led blinking program. The board itself seems to have been bricked/unresponsive. But, a simple printf program itself fails to load. What could be the issue? Thanks Aditya.

Some questions about performance optimization related to GUI framework on Genode

Dear Norman and every scientists and engineers from Genode project, I'm doing a research on performance optimization of our team's verified security operating system project. Our prototype is based on Genode, and we add some security modules to implement a secure operating system. The most serious problem I meet now is that system is very slow when running applications we made before, so I doubt whether this is related to GUI framework. I plan to transplant DoPE to Genode, in order to make a comparation between DoPE and Qt. But I am worried about reasonability about my design of experiments, so I need help from the developers.
