Hello! I'm running netperf TCP_STREAM and TCP_MAERTS tests for lxip stack and i obtained extremely low result - 5x10^6 bits/s while the maximum throughput is 1000 mbit/s . I wonder what could be the reason for that. Anna

Just an idea about virtualbox

Greetings All, I hope that you are all doing well today. My learning is proceeding well with regards to NOVA and Genode. I truly do like this work and am excited to start doing more as I get better familiarized with the inner-workings. My particular interest is with NOVA + Genode + Seoul (or similar VMM) for various work that I am looking into at the moment. With that in mind, a thought had occurred to me and I wanted to ask the group for your thoughts in this area. As you know, there are a number of other open source hypervisors (Type 1 and Type 2) with on of them being Virtualbox (Oracle) that runs well as a Type 2 hypervisor. My understanding is that Virtualbox is also reasonably easy to port to other platforms as well. The power of Virtualbox is that it is very mature at this point and I was wondering. Would there be an advantage to have Virtualbox ported to Genode to run under NOVA? The idea is that since it is already fairly mature, then perhaps it might make a very stable and suitable VMM (in place of Seoul) so that Genode (under NOVA) could run general purposes commodity OS's like Windows and Linux. I am sure that this would be a lot of work, but it seems that that might be an interesting idea. Any comments? Kind Regards and have a great day, Lonnie

ARM trust zone and Wayland on Genode?

Hi Fellow Genodians- It seems like Genode's secure display windows are off to a good start with "Nitpicker"... ...What is happening so that the Wayland display compositor will be able to in some way run withing the Genode OS? Where might I find more info on the efforts to run Genode within ARM TrustZone... Thanks -Peter

iMX53 M4IF Watermark Regions for TrustZone

The iMX53 security manual and multimedia ref manual states that there is a configurable set of registers in the CSU that control watermark regions on the M4IF. I am grepping thru genode code but can't find this code. Is there some module/driver that handles these registers? -Earlence

FOSDEM 2014

Hello, it goes without saying that Genode will participate in FOSDEM this year (February 1 - 2, in Brussels). Like the years before, there will be a microkernel devroom. This time, the devroom will be held on Sunday. There will be two presentations at the devroom specifically related to Genode: 9:55 - 10:40 Genode as general-purpose OS - Progress report and demonstration Norman Feske 15:00 - 15:30 Virtualization Dungeon on ARM Stefan Kalkowski As usual, those presentations will be garnished with demonstrations. Genode Userland Licensing

Hi, I've been searching back over previous mail postings on userland licensing for Genode, but haven't really found anything pertinent. Could someone possibly make a definitive comment on this - what is the license for any code sitting on top of Genode? If it's pure GPLv2 then I, for one, am stuck as I will have no control on what third parties will place on the application level. CheersNick

Min RAM and ROM footprints

Hi, Can someone give me a guestimate (or better) on the minimum RAM and ROM footprints for ARM (lets say PBXA9) for genode-hw and genode+foc, to run a minimal printf program? Also, I wonder if there are other open source microkernels aimed at tiny memory footprints - can you suggest any? Apologies if this question is too vague to answer. Daniel

Hi Volks, i just thought to build a hardware mp3 player with one of those creditcard sized SoC boards…. And I would´t write to this mailing list if I don´t intend to try genode for this purpose… So first: Is there someone out who already gone through this adventure?! Second: witch SoC-board would you recommend for this.. I just heard the rumor, that the line-out is weak with the raspberry pi board…. and last but not least: which software stack is probably usable (ideally without porting…) the Music Player Daemon (http://www.musicpd.org/) looks quite interesting ?! Thanks mirac btw: If one of the developers is interested I would donate a Linksys WRT54GL Router (assuming i can find it in my cellar)

Booting base-hw image on a Freescale i.MX6

Hello all, We've tried to run a basic test-printf script on a Freescale i.MX6 sabrelite board. Based on this<http://sourceforge.net/p/genode/mailman/message/31760885/>, we implemented the necessary files. We had also come across an i.MX6 branch by Nikolay Golikov stating that he had a preliminary port of i.MX6 here: https://github.com/decaprox/genode/tree/i.mx6 We ran RUN_OPT="--target=uboot" make run/printf to see if it does print "-1 = -1 = -1" to the serial console (tested with gtkterm). We ran the boot image uImage through TFTP at load address 0x10800000. It loads the kernel (267.9 kB) but stops at "Loading kernel". How do we know if the kernel is indeed running, or are we checking the right UART ports? (we checked UART1) I gave "console=ttymxc0, 115200" as bootargs in u-boot. Any suggestions on how to proceed? Because we are literally stuck. Also, is there a good debugging tool for testing the genode environment on direct hardware? Thanks in advance Aditya Kousik
