Running Ubuntu Snappy under Genode on a SnickerDoodle..?

It's encouraging to find that Genode already provides some support for the Zynq_7000 ARM/FPGA SOC.. I gather SnickerDoodle <http://krtkl.com/> (I will be Alpha testing), supports Ubuntu Snappy booted from an SD card out of the box <https://www.crowdsupply.com/krtkl/snickerdoodle/updates/1992>... My dream here is that Ubuntu Snappy might run under Genode, along side the more real-time oriented I/O and control process.. (that I would not trust to run within Snappy).... that is:I would like the benefits of both Genode, and a mainstream IOT orientated Linux distribution (that someday I hope will become BSD centric ) thus, I write asking for advice as to how I might best get all of these OS parts to play nicely together...and if anyone else has a similar interest for Genode's future directions. -Peter

Hello, Thank you for the response. In the implementation described in the article VFS isn't used due to the fact, that VFS wasn't available in genode at that time. A comment of the libc_fuse plugin states: /* * During the initialization of the plugin, we already require the VFS. * Hence, we need to make sure to initialize the VFS before doing our * own initialization. */ So does the current implementation, when using a FUSE fs via the libc plugin, require VFS? Is there any more detailed information about the VFS in genode? I am particularly interested in finding out how the flow of a FUSE call differs in genode compared to the "normal" call as shown in this graphic [1]. When using a FUSE based fs as a file system server as described in Josef's response, do any adjustments have to be made to the FUSE fs so it runs on genode? Green task stacks

Hello! Genode Thread class already have infrastructure for implementing the green tasks: alloc_secondary_stack() which used i.e. in dde_linux to emulate the Linux kernel behavior. These secondary stacks have fixed maximal size and live one below another, so they can overlap each other. It is possible to create different Dataspace lists for each green stack and then switch them. Right now Genode hasn't the method for switching several DSs at once, so each DS in that list should be switched individually which would be too expensive. The question is: even having that method, can we still consider our tasks "green"? Or such complexity is no better than the ordinal thread complexity? Thanks!

You're trying to make a second connection to the Block service, but you should be making a second connection to the File_system service. The Block service only provides a random-access chunk of memory, not access to files. The first client connected to the file system as expected and two files were read and processed. When the second client attempted to make a connection to the Block service, a "could not open block connection" error was issued by the disk_initialize method in diskio_block.cc. (partial log below). Loading component configuration from file with lx_fs.

Hi! I would like to load a component configuration from a file on linux. So I've added a lx_fs and a fs_rom component that replaces my dynamic_rom component without changing any code in my component. So far is everything good (I hope!). To my questions: 1. How do I state which file to read? 2. My understanding is that the root attribute in lx_fs defines which directory genode will see as root. But anything except "/" here results in the error message "Session root directory "..." does not exist". 3. Do I write the same thing in the config file as I did when having the dynamic_rom (<config attribute="value" .... />)? Writing to two different dataspaces at the same time

Hello Genode Community, i am new to Genode and i have two questions. 1) Is it somehow possible to back a virtual address range with two different dataspaces (attaching two different dataspaces at the same virtual address is obviously not possible) ? What i want to achieve is that writing to a virtual address results in writing to two dataspaces at the same time, so that the dataspaces have the same content. 2) As far as i know a thread has to be added to a rm session as a client in order to be able to use it as layout for its virtual address space. Is it possible for a thread to operate on two different rm_sessions at the same time? Best Regards, David

Problem linking against pthread in 15.11

Hey Genodians, I just updated to 15.11 (building on linux_x86) whenever a component links against pthread, I am getting an error such as Program app/qt5/examples/calculatorform/calculatorform LINK calculatorform build/var/libcache/pthread/pthread.lib.so: undefined reference to `_context_area_start' (This one comes from qt, but of course make run/pthread comes up with something similar) Build directory was cleaned beforehand.
