Missing pc_usb_host_drv and usb_hid_drv

Also posted at https://github.com/genodelabs/genode/issues/4593I'm trying out the Nova microhypervisor with the line:make run/demo KERNEL=nova BOARD=pcand I get the error:Error: incomplete or missing recipe (genodelabs/src/pc_usb_host_drv genodelabs/src/usb_hid_drv)I'm following the Genode Foundations 21.05 pdf and tried the typing in the suggested help message from the error handler:update depot: /home/samuraicrow/Documents/genode/tool/depot/create genodelabs/bin/x86_64/base-nova genodelabs/bin/x86_64/demo genodelabs/bin/x86_64/global_keys_handler genodelabs/bin/x86_64/init genodelabs/bin/x86_64/nit_focus genodelabs/bin/x86_64/nitpicker genodelabs/bin/x86_64/report_rom genodelabs/bin/x86_64/rom_filter genodelabs/pkg/x86_64/drivers_interactive-pc CROSS_DEV_PREFIX=/usr/local/genode/tool/21.05/bin/genode-x86- DEPOT_DIR=/home/samuraicrow/Documents/genode/depot UPDATE_VERSIONS=1 FORCE=1 REBUILD= -j8 and it executes but doesn't help. When trying again it yields the same error.I'm trying to run this on Manjaro Linux x86_64 XFCE. My hardware is an 8 year old gaming rig with a 3rd gen i7 CPU and 32 GB of DDR3. It has UEFI firmware and the USB3 is working under Linux.Are there any suggestions of how to get around this?

using a C library within a VFS plugin

Dear Genodians I would like to use a C library (wolftpm) from within a VFS plugin. I have tried the following: - using with_libc which segfaulted - creating a pthread which didn't start (result EINVAL). I came to the conclusion that some prerequisite was missing from the environment. - calling with_libc from within a Genode::Thread, which yielded "Error: pthread_self() called from alien thread named 'tpm'" So what is the proper way to do this? Error While genode for ARM generation

Hello Genodians, I'm trying to generate a genode image for ARM architecture. to be precise imx8q_evk board Currently i follow article "Sculpt OS 21.10 on ARM" by Stefan Kalkowsi https://genodians.org/skalk/2021-10-25-sculpt-arm For ARM toolchain and Packages i'm using "Docker Container" http://genodians.org/skalk/2020-09-29-docker-devel (I'm using genode-docker-devel for docker) (this docker image should contains all packages and toolchain but still need to install some packages) able to download all third party software tool/ports/prepare_port bash coreutils curl dde_linux dde_rump ...... but during depot directory facing this problem. tool/depot/create genodelabs/pkg/arm_v8a/sculpt-imx8q_evk genodelabs/bin/arm_v8a/base-hw-imx8q_evk CROSS_DEV_PREFIX=/usr/local/genode/tool/21.05/bin/genode-aarch64- UPDATE_VERSIONS=1 -j8 *[Please have a look at attached Screenshot of Error message]* *"aclocal-1.15" is missing* while look into the system found that aclocal is part of GNU basically. And version of installed aclocal is 1.16 (newer than required) and also if I change aclocal(automake) version then it may not be compatible with current GNU and create problems in future. invalid signal-context capability

Hello Genodians I'm debugging an "invalid signal-context capability" but I can't pinpoint the bug. From my understanding an "invalid signal-context capability" happens when the signal handler is destroyed before the signal is processed. I have therefore carefully looked at the lifetime of all signal handlers and their corresponding signals, refactoring code to allow signals to be processed before destroying signal handlers. Is there another condition that triggers an "invalid signal-context capability" besides destroying the signal handler before any corresponding signal is processed? Does anyone have any tips on how to find which signal handler caused an "invalid signal-context capability" or where the signal originated? Monitoring components for CPU/segmentation faults

Hello Genodians While searching for a solution to the problem of misbehaving components I stumbled upon `test-fault_detection` which gave me the idea to let init monitor the PD/CPU session of its children and report the error. The idea is that a monitor component can then decide what to do about the failure. I have drafted what I envision in [1]. It is not yet complete, as I'm not sure on how to safely remove the signal handlers if in a config change the monitoring is disabled. If you think this feature would be useful, I'd create an issue where the implementation details could be discussed. How to operate Genode on a machine without graphical output

Good evening, I am strongly interested to install the current Genode / SculptOS release on a server without graphical output, just with a serial terminal (VT100). As I haven't found this issue addressed in the official Genode docs, I'd like to ask here how to make Genode's UI, including the "Leitzentrale" on a 25×80 char device. Thank you. terminal interface for tests

Hello, is it possible to launch and execute commands on a Genode VM completely through a Linux terminal? I tried qemu's '-nographic' option but it doesn't work. The reason I need this is because I want to make some changes to a compiler that has Genode support. I need to make some changes to the Genode specific code generation. I would like to do this as a test workflow on GitHub. Thanks!

Reboot on ArmV8

Hi Genodians, On x86, the acipica component enables shutdown and reboot of the device. I was however unable to find any related component in the genode repo for power management on ArmV8 The PSCI functions are a convenient way for power management in ArmV8. The base-hw kernel already provides a PSCI implementation of cpu_on and cpu_off and it is trivial to implement the other PSCI functions as well. I am particularly interested in system reset. I would like to perform a system reset from a user space component, however PSCI requires kernel privileges. Would it be possible to expose the PSCI system reset service to a specific component? How feasible is this modification with respect to the structure of base-hw? Regards, Shashank

usage of new PC `platform_drv` and `pci_decode`

Hello Genodians While debugging https://github.com/genodelabs/genode/issues/4538, I'm having trouble using the new `platfomr_drv` for the PC platform. From the release notes of 22.05, it seems that the new component `pci_decode` should be used to create the list of PCI devices. Searching for this on master and staging I only find the component's source and its mention in the release notes - but not how it's used. I therefore extended my search. In the repository of skalk, I have found the branch `nvme_drv`, which adapts the NVMe driver for the new platform driver. When I execute the run-script from this branch on different platforms (x86_64 qemu, an Intel 8th gen up-xtreme and my Intel 11700), `pci_decode` doesn't report any PCI devices. Are there any further requirements to use the new platform driver on PC? Best regards Pirmin

Compile error in Foundations book

Hi Norman, I spotted a compile error in the Foundations book. Page 33 section void _handle_timeout() { log("woke up at ", _timer.elapsed_ms(), " ms"); } /home/user/genode/repos/lab/src/app/hello/main.cc:15:5: error: ‘log’ was not declared in this scope; did you mean ‘Genode::log’? I guess this is an oversight as it is the first example that's worth copy/paste and try out.. Cheers, Guido. PS. I've restarted my Genode experiments, this time with my APU4. I hope to turn it into a simple edge router for my home network... When it works I want to do a genodians blog on it.
