Celebrating Genode's 6th Anniversary

Hello everyone, the 6th anniversary of the Genode OS Framework is approaching, which gives us many reasons to celebrate. To just name a few, in the past year, we have conquered VirtualBox to run on Genode, embraced NetBSD Rump kernels, and went full steam ahead with the development of our custom base-hw kernel. Business-wise, we are happy to be recognised as a trusted partner by our existing longtime customers. At the same time, we are excited that our company has gained much visibility outside of Europe. For example, the wide anticipation of our work on ARM TrustZone has taken us by surprise. Let us celebrate the 6th anniversary of Genode together! connect to existing RPC server

Hi , In the Genode RPC we start the client and the server in the same time as in Hello world tutorial. in my case i want the server to serve many clients in the same time .if i create run file for each client each time a new server instance (process) will be created . are there any ways to make the second client use the same running server . i tried to run the both client in same run file but it did not work.I am sure that there are some way to get capability from the existing server . thank you in advance . -- *Mohammad *

Problems with virtualbox after commit cdb7904

Hi, I'm trying to tun NOVA(64)+Genode+VMBox+Android on a System with Intel Core i5-4302Y CPU. So far it worked fine, but I got trouble since commit cdb7904 "timer: nova specific version of the service". With this patch applied, Android on VMBox is not booting up anymore. Instead I get messages like this: [ 19.900000] INFO: rcu_preempt self-detected stall on CPU I tried to reproduce the issue in QEMU, but there everything works fine. So the issue seems to be related to my Hardware. In the logs everything looks fine, I couldn't find any abnormalities. Do you have any ideas on what might go wrong or where I should start investigating? Unfortunately my debugging possibilities are limited, as I have no serial connection. Thanks Christian

Hello, I've stomped onto an old post on this list, considering a port for picoTCP. https://www.mail-archive.com/genode-main%40lists.sourceforge.net/msg01976.h… If I understood correctly, the major concern was around the threading model. We now have a library that provides blocking socket operations in a OS-agnostic way: https://github.com/tass-belgium/picotcp-bsd All you would need to provide is a couple of synchronization mechanisms (- a mutex and a msgqueue/semaphore) in your own -osal module, besides the clock source and the allocator as for any ports in the stack. Configuring Virtualbox

Hi all, is there any way to change the settings of the virtual machine started on Genode? For instance by providing a *.vbox config file? In my special case I would like to activate the usage of absolute mouse events in VMBox so that the usage of a touchscreen becomes more convenient. Greetings Christian

Raspberry Pi not booting kernelimage

Hello everyone, I am currently trying to get Genode 14.05 running on the Raspberry Pi. As a first shot, I followed the instructions in the 13.11 releasenotes for compiling the genode-demo for the RPi. However, when trying to boot the genode image, I'm stuck with the colored rainbow splash screen. I simply added the image to an existing (and running) raspian image and modified config.txt. The same happens when I try to run the printf test. - I'm not getting any output over the UART. Am I missing something here? Best regards Marcus -- Marcus Nolte, M. Sc. Process creation on Fiasco.OC / L4

Hi all, I am trying to find out how process creation (and termination) is done on the Fiasco.OC/L4 platform. I took a look at cli_monitor and launchpad apps and tried to trace the function calls to fiasco.OC/L4 but I am not very experienced and didn't succeed. If anyone could give me some hints and push me in the right direction, I would appreciate it. (Just to clarify: I am not interested in how to create/terminate processes in genode but rather in how Genode creates (starts) processes on Fiasco.OC, e.g. which Fiasco-Procedures (or L4) get called in order to do so. Kernel Initialization iMx6

Hi Stefan, We tried to further to debug call to call as you mentioned . And we find out that the call for *pic( ) in *kernel.cc is reaching to the Grand parent Arm_gic :: Pic constructor. In constructor _distr ( distr_base), _cpu ( cpu_base) are getting initialized, which is working fine. And whenever functions of _distr and _cpu objects are being called, it's got stuck. like in the initialization part *_distr.max_interrupt( ) *is not working. The same thing is working in Genode version 13.11 but not in 14.05. Can you suggest some thing to debug this problem ?? Regards Chirag Garg IIT Madras , Rise Lab

Kernel Initialization Problem

Hi As I am working on iMx6 Board. I am trying to use Arm_gic Interrupt Controller instead of TZIC used in iMx53 board. Previously I was using Pic_based:: Pic( ). As the version change in Genode 14.05, Inside : Genode/repos/base-hw/src/core/kernel/kernel.cc we are calling " init_kernel_uniprocessor( ) " to set up the env for other core and then we are calling " init_kernel_multiprocessor( ) " which is using *pic( )* call at various places which is returning a singleton object. extern "C" void init_kernel_multiprocessor() { ..... ..... init_trustzone(*pic( )*); ...... } and the pic( ): Pic * pic() { * return unmanaged_singleton<Pic>( ) *; } and at this point it is not able to return the object *unmanaged_singleton<Pic>( ) , *what could be the problem ?? Kernel Initialized in iMX6

Hi all. I am trying to port genode 14.05 on iMX6 board. As Aditya done this successfully for Genode 13.05. But Genode 14.05 is having so many changes from version 13.05. I am successfully able to build for iMx6 and it's creating uImage for "printf" script. But when i am running this uImage on the Board and its giving following messages : starting Kernel... Genode 14.05 Kernel Initialized int main( ) : --- create local services--- failed to communicate with thread event Any idea How will I start kernel ? where should i look ??
