Trying out the hello tutorial

Hi everyone! I've been trying out the hello tutorial, and after following the steps in the tutorial ( http://genode.org/documentation/developer-resources/client_server_tutorial), I got stuck at the *./core* step. I got an "Illegal instruction (core dumped)". I can't seem to find a post around here that describes a similar problem. What might be the problem? Correct me if I'm wrong, I'm supposed to have a *config* file in the */build/bin* directory, but since there wasn't one at first, I created a new document and put in the necessary code, as described on the website. Transform native Genode port of lua library into an application for Genode's Noux runtime

Hello list, Before attempting to do a port of LuaJIT as an additional application for Genode's Noux runtime, in a first step, I try to transform the existing port of Lua from a native Genode library to a "Noux package" (noux-pkg). The native Genode application moon(-tool) uses the existing port of the Lua library as a Lua extension of "C", whereas I would like to use the Lua and LuaJIT interpreters interactively from a bash shell with terminal. Thus, I have created lua0.port, lua0.hash (see below) and got its source tree into contrib/ ./prepare_port lua0 CHECK_HASH=no Note that I chose to name the noux-pkg "lua0" in order to clearly differentiate it from the existing library "lua". Currently, I struggle with the Noux build tool which insists on calling configure, whereas the library port tool seems not to call configure, but simply makes repos/libports/lib/mk/lua.mk . What would be the recommended way forward, e.g. is there a way to disable the Autotools/configure step in my lua0/target.mk, or to create an "empty" configure script using a patch for example? Security compartmentalisation

Hi, I would like some help understanding the below described scenario. An L4Linux/Genode/Fiasco.OC is used as the secure environment. If a malware is executed on a process thread on the L4Linux layer, say to scrape the L4Linux to do memory dumps or to access the filesystem for crypto key files, how will the above setup protect against a malicious process thread ? An example being a PGP email crypto program running on a process thread with another process thread infected by a malware. Thanks & Regards, Thoth.

RE: USB armory USB driver - porting

Hello all, It has taken a lot longer than I hoped initially, but I have some progress to report on the USB driver port for the USB armory. The current state is that the controller bringup looks like it *does something* but the functionality (and device hotplugging) does not work. My current code is in here: https://github.com/vladimir-lu/genode/tree/issue/imx53_usb_host_staging As I mentioned, upon hotplugging a device (tested with a memory stick and of course the official host adapter) - there seems to be no log activity, but when the memory stick is plugged in from boot time it at least recognises that there is something connected to the port. The two log files are here: https://gist.github.com/anonymous/101496bdfb266b460e51 The relevant line in the log is: [init -> usb_drv] dev_dbg: state 7 ports 1 chg 0002 evt 0000 vs (in the non-recognised case) [init -> usb_drv] dev_dbg: state 7 ports 1 chg 0000 evt 0000 I do not have any good ideas at the moment where to go next with debugging this problem - can anyone suggest places to look? I guessed that the issue is in the clock setup, but writing to the Usboh3_60M and Usbphy1 in Ccgr2 and Ccgr4 respectively does not seem to make any difference. The usb phy has no tranceiver on this platform so does not need enabling. The OTG port is being used for host mode. As you may notice, the platform.cc now contains a few header definitions + functions that I copy+pasted from the wifi driver but did not want to put in lx_emul.cc - is that correct or should I just stick them in linux_emul.cc for all to use? I have also run the input-test and that does not print any events received. One interesting line comes out after a few seconds however: [init -> usb_drv] dev_dbg: debounce: port 1: total 2000ms stable 0ms status 0x401 I want to get host mode working before I start with the OTG + gadget porting (there is some diff primarily in the OTG stuff between 3.14.5 and 4.0 so I am not sure how much of 3.14.5 will actually "work" without getting a 3.14.5 kernel running on the armory first...) Hi, How do I add/customize the L4Linux so that the next time I build the ISO and boot it, it will have the programs I customized it for ? sendmsg in libc_lwip

hello, I am looking in plugin implementation to have deep understand about it. my objective is to implement the "sendmsg" function. i was able to mange it but when i am compiling i got error message tell me that the " struct msghdr and iovec" were defined twice ! . I add the the definition of struct msghdr and struct iovec in /include /lwip/lwip/sockets.h and they are already defined in /libc/sys/socket.h . i am really confused since there are many data types defined in the both headers (e.g sockadd) and libc_lwip was never complained ! best,

Joining Filesystems

I have been thinking about writing a file manager for Genode. This has led me to some questions: Is there already any file manager currently being written? What is the best way of joining multiple filesystems into a single tree? (Or should I be doing something different?) Which libraries/files/functions should I use? I think Boost Filesystems should be ported to Genode at some point, so I might want to use that. How difficult would that be? Or should not add that as a dependency? What's the best way to scan a directory for files and other directories? How much file type detection (and file preview) is safe? Also, I may want to use threading. Are C++11 threads supported?

Gopher protocol server

For anyone looking to browse file systems on Genode over a network, I have a Gopher protocol server. Its not very well tested (or thought out), so I'm keeping it in my feature repo at app/gopher_server. https://github.com/ehmry/genode-emery My only use for it so far has been writing logs to a ram_fs, then reading them with lynx. base-hw: Virtualbox thread priorities

Hi, While investigating the cause for the performance discrepancy of Virtualbox on NOVA vs hw_x86_64[_muen] [1], I have determined, with help from Alexander, that Virtualbox thread priorities [2] are not applied on base-hw. Even though priorities are specified when constructing the Cpu_connection [3], they have no effect since no quota is subsequently assigned/transferred. According to the 14.11 release notes [4], threads without quota have no guarantee to be scheduled and their priority is ignored. I believe this is the main cause for the difference in execution speed of Virtualbox on NOVA and base-hw. I was wondering if you could confirm my analysis of the issue and provide some pointers on how to best achieve the proper application of Virtualbox thread priorities on base-hw.
