nic_bridge with tap devices under linux_x86

Hi Genodians, I would like to test some networking-stuff under linux_x86 and have got a question concerning the use of the nic_bridge with the linux nic_drv. My setup is the following: For testing, I have created two tap devices which are used by two Genode 15.02 instances running on the same linux host. One instance is hosting a server application, the other the respective client, both using the lwip socket API. As long, as I only use the server and the client, everything is fine. In the next step I added additional components to the configuration which are also supposed to access the network. Thus I added the nic_bridge with a configured mac-address as a resource multiplexer and set the routes accordingly. The components in question successfully get an ip via dhcp. However, I do not receive any packets at the other end of the (virtual) line. - Infact it seems as if they do not even reach the nic_drv. When the bridge & nic_drv are initializing, I see the following lines on the server side (client'ts the same, except, of course, for the ip- and mac-address): [init -> nic_drv] --- Linux/tap NIC driver started --- [init -> nic_drv] Success [init -> nic_drv] Using tap device "tap1" [init -> nic_bridge] Invalid session request, no matching policy [init -> nic_bridge] --- NIC bridge started (mac=02:00:00:00:00:01) --- [init ->server] got IP address 192.168.56.106 As far as I read it from the mailing list / git commits, the "Invalid session request" message is not critical, correct? In a further simplified setup, I am using a single tap device with the nic driver, which is working flawlessly. As soon as I add the bridge I notice the same behavior as described above. In wireshark I saw a series of 3 ARP requests finished with a gratuitous ARP,if the bridge is not used. - The last one is missing if the bridge is used. If I read the code correctly those packets are purposely dropped in the nic_bridge. Am I missing / misconfiguring something here? Problem running the demo

Hi Genode Community, I started using the Freescale i.MX53 QSB and was trying to run the Genode demo, following all the steps given in the 'getting_started.txt'. Genode 15.08 NOVA Demo Blank Screen

Hi, I am trying to run the demo and a QEMU appeared with a blank screen although before thr blank screen appeared it did display messages that looks like from the NOVA hypervisor loading. I remembered when I built he NOVA for 15.05 it showed a nitpicker GUI demo screen though. Regards, Thoth.

Reg: POSIX compliant c library

Hi, I am trying to send big buffer using RPC call. to do that I used to divide the buffer and send it many time . I read about the synchronous bulk transfer, by using shared memory with the synchronous RPC. are there any samples about using this method. best

Hi, i use Genode 15.05 with the corresponding toolchain. Now, i have a problem with the uboot creation script. Changing the Genode directory layout regarding aSPECts

Hello, as discussed in the issue "Apply SPEC approach consequently to all repositories" [1], I have changed the directory layout of Genode's source tree accordingly [2]. The commit will probably enter the staging branch soon. Therefore, the question for all Genode developers arises, what needs to be taken into account. First, when you rebase to to the new directory layout, it is strongly recommended to fully clean your build directories before compiling again. Moreover, the top-level Makefile within the build-directories has changed. This should be no issue, as it is normally just a symbolic link to the Makefile within your Genode's source tree. After the change, when you add new code with aspect-dependent parts, which means parts of the headers and compilation units are chosen using SPEC-variables (e.g.: 32bit vs. 64bit, or arm vs. x86), that code should reside in a 'spec/<SPEC-VARIABLE-NAME>/' subdirectory from now on. I hope you are all fine with those changes. Until now, it didn't hit the staging or master branches. So if there are any strong concerns against it, feel free to express them now. Xpra port?

Hey there, After disappearing and thinking for a while about how to have some kind of support for GNU/Linux sandboxes with seamless integration to the window manager. I've thought a lot about how the Qubes approach does it using shared memory and Xorg messages but this doesn't work over the network, so I'm starting to wonder if it'd be better to just use something like Xpra. I'm not sure how big the TCB of it is versus just passing X messages, but it shouldn't really be that bad if you only give it access to files shared with the sandboxed system, meaning it'd be counterproductive to break in to Xpra. Xpra also plans a Wayland port which might map well. Thoughts? Jookia.

Porting YSE5250 to base-foc

Hi Martin, i'm on version 15.08 now and have created a new build directory. The error is still the same. I added the hello_tutorial repository, yes. Here is the output of genode-arm-readelf --version: GNU readelf (GNU Binutils) 2.25 Copyright (C) 2014 Free Software Foundation, Inc. This program is free software; you may redistribute it under the terms of the GNU General Public License version 3 or (at your option) any later version. This program has absolutely no warranty.
