Hello once again my friends :) I'm thinking about purchasing a new thinkpad for my father as a gift and virtualizing Windows 10 on Genode/NOVA (he's a Windows sysadmin). I've been studying the run scripts in the ports repo for vbox5 and Windows, but I'm getting no closer to understanding them. I'm usually a RTFM type of guy but I've really hit a wall here and I seem to be going in circles. What should I name the .iso, where should I put it, and what run script should I use? Genode on RPI - end of discovery stage

Hi everyone, I'd like to share with you information that finally I've managed to find out what was the reason of problems with networking on rpi 3b+ which I implemented (with help mostly from Stefan) during Hack'n'Hike. The important thing that we didn't notice during Hack'n'Hike was that packages that we were able to receive only broadcast messages, so only arp packets were received. That led me to debugging code that was supposed to set MAC address in the driver and after some digging I found in [1] information about a bug (later fixed) in this linux driver that caused not setting MAC address properly in some situations. Applying a change from this patch allowed to have usb_net test working. In the meantime I've checked that usb_block test also works (although seems to be quite slow) so I think I have generally working the most important devices to start again from the start and polish my work and try to prepare it for inclusion Genode repositories (probably I'll wait for a release). My current plan is to work on supporting with base-hw: - rpi3b+ 32bit - as 64bit support is not yet ready and 32bit version does not restrict using of this device - rpi2b - this one is armv7 so 32bit architecture and with regard to devices it is somewhere between rpi1 and rpi3b+ After discussion with Stefan during Hack'n'Hike I plan to move as much as possible of support for above versions to genode-world repository as Genode Labs plans to support in main genode repository and test: old rpi and new rpi3b (without +) 64bit. One thing I'd like to get some acceptance is a naming scheme for those SOCs/configurations. Especially for the 32 and 64 bit versions for one SOC. Will it be ok to have following naming for boards? - rpi3bplus32 (running 32 bit) - rpi3bplus (later; running native for armv8 64 bit instructions) - rpi2b - rpi3b - version that you have and plan to support Cheers Tomasz [1] https://lkml.org/lkml/2018/11/7/860

Empty inline files in vfs

Hi Genodians, I've noticed that reading an empty inline file crashes the vfs but only when this file is created by an <inline name="test"/> but not when it's created by an <inline name="test"></inline>. This can be demonstrated easily be noux's /bin/cat but seems to be true also with respect to other applications reading such files. Forgive me if this is a stupid question... So, I've been using Sculpt CE with NOVA since it was released an am amazed at what can be done with such a small amount of people. It's very impressive! Looking forward to the next release. So, how can I setup a Genode development environment within Sculpt? I want to test out some run scripts from the world repository without needing to setup an Ubuntu 16.04 dev environment Thanks :3

I don’t know much about c++ but just put it all in a class and use inheritance and polymorphism, it should be platform adhesive even in virtualization scenarios. I want a good internal database too, feel free to tell me to go away, but multidimensional multidirectional binary trees even though memory hungry make a good internal database. I have code in c but it got deleted by a hacker from my website, I’ll try to upload it again when everything’s safe Sent from my iPhone

Announcement: Genode OS Framework version 19.05 released

Today, we released the version 19.05 of the Genode OS framework. During this release cycle, we primarily focused on platform support. The addition of the ARM 64-bit architecture, the upgrade of our reference tool chain to GCC 8.3, our updated C runtime, and the consolidation of build directories across multiple boards increase the diversity of the base platforms while keeping the complexity at a manageable level. The flagship feature of Genode 19.05 is certainly our new kernel-agnostic virtualization interface, which effectively decouples virtual machine monitor implementations - like Seoul or VirtualBox - from the concrete underlying microkernel. Thanks to this long-term effort, we can now run the formerly NOVA-specific Seoul VMM on top of the seL4 and Fiasco.OC kernels. The release is accompanied with a new revision of the Genode Foundations book, which has now become available as an online version in addition to the regular PDF document. Of course, there are many further improvements to explore, summarized as follows: - Kernel-agnostic virtualization interface - Initial support for the 64-bit ARM architecture - New tool chain based on GCC 8.3.0 and binutils 2.32 - Updated C and SPARK runtimes - Build directories shared across different boards - Improved kernel support for Muen, NOVA, seL4, Fiasco.OC - Performance optimization of the base-hw kernel - Logging for distributed Genode systems - Updated Zynq and Intel network drivers - Ability to run Tomcat and Spring on OpenJDK Please find those and more topics explained in detail in the release documentation: https://genode.org/documentation/release-notes/19.05 Cheers Norman -- Dr.-Ing. mouse pointer doesn't work on Rpi 1

Dear Genode team, I am Kimbelly. I tried this commands : $ ./tool/create_builddir rpi $ make run/demo KERNEL=hw I could run the demo on Rpi 1 B+ (ARM v6) but the mouse pointer didn't work. I don't know what happen... (I have uncommented the dde_linux) Another question is now what kind of the ARM boards that you recommend ? Thanks a lot ! 😊
