Can genode run on Rpi 4 ?

Programatic configuration with Dhall

Hello Genodians, As a side project I've been experimenting with using the Dhall configuration language (https://dhall-lang.org/) for generating and composing Genode XML. Dhall is a purely functional, non-Turing complete language designed for expressing and transforming configuration. The standard prelude, something like a pure standard library, supports transformation of Dhall expressions to XML (as of v9.0.0) which allow Genode configuration to be expressed and rendered using the pure Dhall. I would not advocate parsing Dhall directly within Genode components, rendering to XML files is certainly fine for now. A non-trivial analogy would the "noux-system" package expressed as Dhall: https://git.sr.ht/~ehmry/genode-ehmry/tree/master/runtimes/noux-system/pkg.… Using this language has its advantages and its drawbacks. The advantages being checks against malformed configuration using a strict type system, the ability to deduplicate and normalize similiar configurations, and the ability to automatically generate configuration parameters such as resource quotas and routing rules using induction rather than hand- tweaking. The disadvantages being a new language to learn (though faster than the training to write flawless XML), an esoteric appearance, and a lack of recursive types (nested XML is possible, but expressed as partially applied nested functions, which are basically opaque). If its something you interested in, I would recommend playing with the language a bit, and then working from the largest to narrowest scope when writing configurations, because nested configuration may always be expressed as a string of XML. Announcement: Genode OS Framework version 19.08 released

I am happy to announce the release of Genode version 19.08. The summer release is dedicated to topics important for the practical use of Genode and Sculpt OS. Topics like keyboard-layout handling, system-time management, secure copy and paste, or dealing with a captive portal when joining a public WiFi network can safely be ignored when building proof of concepts or tech demos but they are vital for real-world use. Hence, we put them into focus. Among the further highlights of version 19.08 are the base-hw kernel running on 64-bit ARM, networking on i.MX8, a new tracing tool, Qt5 version 5.13, SMBIOS support, and enhanced POSIX compatibility. Debugging without GDB - stack print?

Hi! While I am new on genode/sel4, I encounter traditional problem with app debug. I finally make iso image on my Golang test application. sigaltstack support with kernel seL4

Do Genode (in particular, on seL4 kernel) support sigaltstack function? I found its description in signal.h while it is unresolved during linking, and my search in libs did not give any results. As I understand, it should be in libc? I found it in depot/genodelabs/api/libc/2019-07-08/include/libc/signal.h While no references to function body…

how to build an ISO for sel4

Hi, all, Is there any guide to build an ISO for seL4/genode for x86_64 platform ? I am new to Genode. I downloaded an ISO ( built by alex ??), which works in qemu-kvm, but doesn't work on my Intel NUC hardware. I want to take a look into it and see if I can enable it on my hardware. But for the first step, I have to know how to build an ISO. thanks in advance, -minskey

Keyboard not working in Sculpt CE

Hello there, I'm playing around with the Sculpt CE Virtual Box Image on my computer (AMD Ryzen Desktop PC with USB Keyboard). The Keyboard is a Cherry USB Keyboard. Hitting F12 results in activating/deactivating the Leitzentrale Overlay, but all other keystrokes are not accepted (in noux shell and Qt5 Text Edit). Any ideas? Thank you! Stefan

Beginner question / running demo

Hello there, after some time of abstinence, I tried to build sculpt-19.07 <https://github.com/genodelabs/genode/releases/tag/sculpt-19.07> by cloning the repo. Java and VFS on different kernels

I'm experimenting with the cool feature of running Java applications introduced in Genode 19.02. I created a run script (= "copied java.run and made some minor changes") that builds and integrates a trivial Java example (check prime) [1]. It works as expected for BOARD=linux and KERNEL=linux. But for BOARD=pc and KERNEL=[hw|nova] it doesn't. Actually, I have two issues I don't understand: 1. Java cannot load the jar file: [init -> java] Error: Invalid or corrupt jarfile app.jar A workaround is to pack it into a tar file and mount it accordingly into the VFS. 2. Genode Community Summer - Invitation

Recently, several requests reached us at Genode Labs from people interested in coming to Dresden for a certain period of time to work on their Genode project while beeing able to seek our assistance in person. To give this idea a dedicated space, Genode Labs will hold a new event, the "Genode Community Summer" this year. *** For whom? *** The gathering is open for everyone of the Genode community. Each participant should have a concrete project to pursue during the time and be able work on this project independently most of the time. Unlike a commercial offered workshop, there won't be any lecture or intensive coaching, but simply co-working in an informal and friendly setting. During the day, people of our team would also work there so that participants can seek our assistance at any time. Please note that anything confidential should better be left at home! This way, we can accommodate people with different backgrounds at the same time while the event bears potential for networking effects among different community members. *** Where? *** The event will take place in the lower floor of the Genode Labs office, Friedrichstraße 26, 01067 Dresden, Germany. Note, that lodging is up to each participant individually. *** When? *** Over two weeks from 16th to 27th of September 2019.
