Announcement: Genode OS Framework version 9.02 released

We have made the version 9.05 of the Genode OS Framework available. After the previous release 9.02 had brought Genode to the Pistachio kernel, we have now further enhanced the number of usable base platforms by adding support for the OKL4 kernel developed by Open Kernel Labs. In addition to the improved platform support, the new version brings major functional improvements including the first parts of our USB stack, 64-bit support, and the integration of the Qt 4.5.1 application framework into our main-line source tree. Using Genode with Existing L4Ka::Pistachio Components?

Hi, out of interest, is it possible to easily use Genode alongside existing L4 components (e.g. L4Linux, Darbat or custom servers)? Or would I have to rewrite the components to fit into the Genode architecture? Also, I'm trying to figure out what the best way to solve a potential license conflict will be (other than don't use the new code/implement the feature at all, hopefully), given that Genode is released under the GPLv2, and some components I'm planning to keep separate in their own servers/libraries to build an accompanying Personality on top of Genode will be released under the Eclipse Public License by the Symbian Foundation soon. Cannot Link Genode 9.02 for L4Ka::Pistachio (With minimal customisation for i9)

Hi, I am currently working on a new L4Ka::Pistachio-based operating system project, and am contemplating integrating Genode components. Sadly, in the process of integrating Genode into the build system, I've noticed that the linking stage fails towards the end of building core with the following: /usr/bin/ld: cannot find -ll4 collect2: ld returned 1 exit status make[2]: *** [/home/tyson/i9os/Personalities/GenodeKit/build.pistachio_x86/core/x86/core] Error 1 make[1]: *** [single_target] Error 2 make: *** [.] Error 2 I had to copy the L4 header files into /base-pistachio/include/, despite also having them in a location specified in build.pistachio_x86/etc/pistachio.conf. Even after running "make install" to copy the L4 userland libraries and header files to /usr/local, I'm stumped. File System Support

Hi all, This is my first post to this list. Can some one please tell me whether there is any filesystem support available for Genode. In other words can I write on the hard disk or access it's ext2/ext3 partitions. If yes, then how to get it working. Refer me to some menu.lst file. And, do you use some different grub? Also I need some help on building genode properly to get 'everything' working. By the way is their support for USB Mouse/Keyboard. Regards, Ashish

Announcement: Genode OS Framework version 9.02 released

We are pleased to announce the release 9.02 of the Genode OS Framework. This release is focused on functional enhancements in two directions. The first direction is broadening the number of possible base platforms for the framework. Genode 9.02 is now available on the L4ka::Pistachio kernel. In the second direction, we are steadily advancing the functionality available on top of Genode. With this release, we introduce a basic networking facility and support for native Qt4 applications as major new features. Thanks to Genode's portability, these features become automatically available on all supported base platforms. We would like to thank Julian Stecklina for his initial port of Genode to L4ka::Pistachio and Christian Prochaska for his Qt4 library porting work. Announcement: portation of SDLlib has started

Genode on the L4ka::Pistachio kernel

Today, we have made the L4ka::Pistachio version of Genode publicly available via our subversion repository. The L4ka::Pistachio kernel is developed by the L4ka group at the University of Karlsruhe and the DiSy group at the University of New South Wales. It implements the latest official L4 API, which is called x.2 (alse referred to a version 4). The official L4ka::Pistachio website is: http://www.l4ka.org/projects/pistachio/ Although both L4 kernels L4ka::Pistachio and the already supported L4/Fiasco belong to the L4 family, they differ in many ways such as the supported CPU architectures, premptibility, kernel-API features, scheduling, stability, and their respective license. This makes the availability of both kernels as base platforms for Genode very attractive. The port of Genode to L4ka::Pistachio was primarily done by Julian Stecklina as a student research project at the University of Technology Dresden. In cooperation, we integrated his work with the mainline Genode development. The L4ka::Pistachio version will become a regular part of the official Genode distribution with upcoming release scheduled for February. Genode OS Framework version 8.11 released

We are pleased to announce the release 8.11 of the Genode OS Framework. Beside many improvements of the base API, we aimed for enabling real-world applications on top of Genode and introduced two major features: C runtime and device-driver API. We regard the presence of device drivers and a way to reuse existing library code as fundamental prerequisites for achieving our goal of a widely applicable OS framework. Furthermore, we extended the base API by a number of exciting feature such as support for asynchronous notifications, capability typification, and managed dataspaces. Live-CD image showing the current state of Genode

We're currently working on the upcoming Genode 8.11 release, which will include the device-driver environment and an ANSI C library. The release is scheduled for mid-November. In the meantime, you may have a shot at our compiled Live-CD image showing off the current state of the Genode OS Framework. The Live CD features a fully graphical demonstration that presents the fundamental concepts of the Genode architecture in an interactive fashion. It runs directly on PC hardware and has been tested on Qemu and VirtualBox.
