Clarification regarding make of build.lx

Respected, I have tried building the file inside genode-13.08 but was not able to build it. I have installed all necessary files. I am getting this error- /usr/local/genode-gcc/bin/genode-x86-ar: error while loading shared libraries: libz.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory make[2]: *** [platform.lib.a] Error 127 make[1]: *** [platform.lib] Error 2 make: *** [gen_deps_and_build_targets] Error 2 How should I rectify this error? Hi I have just received a new board with a dual core cortex a7, the A20-OLinuXino, which I'd like to set up and add to the genode tree - currently more pressing than the RPi! The porting effort mentioned in our paper is mainly because Valgrind intercepts system calls and performs its own resource management. This is implemented for Linux and we had to adapt this to run Valgrind on L4Re. If you wanted to do the same thing for Genode, you'd probably have to make the same adjustments fot that system. As Genode runs on many different microkernels, I am afraid that your port would not be Genode-specific, but specific for a certain (Genode+microkernel) combination. But I'd like to hear the oppinion of Genode people with respect to that. Further, note that the L4Re Valgrind port has last been updated around 2 years ago. If you start your own project, I would strongly recommend to start with a recent Valgrind version (from http://valgrind.org). You could probably still use the L4Re port to figure out which parts of Valgrind you need to touch (it's mainly coregrind). Hi, my take on it: Genode is an operating system _based_ on microkernels. Just as Linux is not the operating system, but rather the kernel which then gets supplemented by user-level applications to form an operating system. Genode provides those services, but does not only support one API, but several ones. In addition to the platforms you mentioned (NOVA, Fiasco, Linux, ...) they developed a small internal kernel to support several ARM systems without the need for an external kernel. I'm sure the maintainers can give you a deeper insight into why this was done. Don't confuse virtualization with the use of an underlying kernel, though. With Genode/NOVA, the microhypervisor actually acts as a microkernel with additional support for running virtual machines with hardware support _within_ Genode. Cannot find dynamic linker binary.

Hi List, I am trying to add some libraries in my build.conf: LIBS = base libm But it doesn't seem to load. The error message I get is: [init] Could not open file "ld.lib.so" [init] Dynamically linked file found, but no dynamic linker binary present [init] unknown exception? [init] Dynamically linked file found, but no dynamic linker binary present [init] unknown exception? I am using the nova_x86_32 kernel, but on other kernels this also happens. If I remove libm my image works again. I haven't found anything to build a dynamic linker in the source. Steps I did: create build dir. add libports to etc/build.conf add my source repository to the build dir make prepare PKG=libc && make prepare PKG=stdcxx make run/something The run script starts up qemu. The kernel boots. And then in qemu it cannot find a linker binary. How should I add libraries to my project? I am probably missing some stupid step. Greets, Edgar Klerks

13.11 LiveCD?

Greetings All, I am new to the GENODE mailing list and am very excited about what I have seen thus far in the project. I am wondering if there is a LiveCD for the latest 13.11 version as the older 2010 version did not work well on my hardware as it would boot up and then after I made a selection it would freeze. Build system wipes include directory

Dear List, I am experimenting with genode and till now it went pretty good. I was building my project and had to rebuilt it a couple of times and suddenly the built broke. I thought no problem, thus I did a make clean. This wasn't helpful. Then I did a make cleanall, but now it wiped out the whole build/include directory. Is this intended behaviour or should I not put things there? At this stage it is just annoying, but I think this is a bug, because the tutorial puts the headers, which define the RPC interfaces. Can I prevent this behaviour? And I want to use c++ features like Strings instead of char *. How can I enable this? I recognize I need a library for this, but I can't find it in base. Building for Raspberry Pi Ubuntu
