update config of floating_window-layouter at runtime

Hello list We would like to change the configuration of the floating_window_layouter while it is running (change key shortcuts, set policies for some windows (only for newly created ones)). Unfortunately it only reads the configuration at startup. Is there a specific reason, why this is so, or is it only because there was no requirement for this? Otherwise I would volunteer to implement the corresponding changes and test them. best regards Pirmin

BUILD TOOLCHAIN FOR ARM

HI, I wanted to build the tool chain for arm processor and to set up genode by qemu emulator. But when i build the genode tool chain for arm..it is asking for missing tools. athul@athul-HP-Pavilion-Notebook:~/genode/tool$ ./tool_chain Need to have GNAT installed and the GNAT version must match the GCC version (found GCC 7). tool_chain:155: *** Please install missing tools.. Stop. athul@athul-HP-Pavilion-Notebook:~/genode/tool$ I have installed the same versions for gcc and gnat. Can you help me?

I ran it three times just to make sure, both in usb2 and usb3 sockets. All good. Other news: 1. I noticed that the debian iso-download on this 06-21 image was jittery, stopping the now-counter for a second every few MBs. Is that an effect of these patches? 2. With the old (sculpt-tc) image, the debian download sometimes hang with what looked like a filesystem lockup. I could not save the config/deploy, nor exit vim. Other processes seemed unaffected. Is that lockup to be expected from the old code? It could also have been a memory error I encountered with memtest. But that was transient. I could not pinpoint it to a single DIMM, nor did it occur any time after that. Perhaps this iron is getting old and flaky. Anyway, thanks for the patch. I've attached the log. Cheers, Guido.

Hi Genodians, I tried this version too. It has some visual differences: - the network-section has these buttons: Off, Local, Wired. While the 18.05 version had Off, Wired, Wifi. There is no mention of Local in the Sculpt article. The Expand option of the GENODE-partition hang at first with an error: [runtime -> usb-1-2.part_blk] Error: Block-session creation failed (ram_quota=4208640, cap_quota=5, tx_buf_size=4194304, label="") [runtime -> usb-1-2.part_blk] Error: Uncaught exception of type 'Genode::Service_denied' When I plugged in a second USB-stick, the resize proces restarted and delivered a bootable resized stick. usage of lxip

Hi all, after noticing that lwip is not fulfilling my requirements I tried to use lxip. Yet I'm not sure how to use it correctly. Just replacing lwip with lxip yields multiple errors: > [init -> test-tcp_echo_server] Error: no plugin found for socket() > [init -> test-tcp_echo_server] Error: Failed to open socket: -1 > [init -> test-tcp_echo_server] Error: no plugin found for bind(-1) > [init -> test-tcp_echo_server] Error: Failed to bind: -1 > [init -> test-tcp_echo_server] Error: no plugin found for listen(-1) I looked into the lxip_udp_echo but I can't find anything that is special to lxip and that could make a difference. libc lwip recv MSG_PEEK doesn't behave as specified

Hi all, I'm currently trying to use a recv call on a network socket with the MSG_PEEK flag. According to the man 2 recv: > MSG_PEEK causes the receive operation to return data from the beginning of the receive queue without removing that data from the queue. Thus, a subsequent receive call will return the same data. Yet this doesn't seem to be the case (at least with lwip). I implemented a test [1] that creates a connection from the test http client and subsequently calls recv(sock, buf, 1, MSG_PEEK) which always should yield 'G' into the buffer (the first character of the GET request). Yet the output looks as follows: > [init -> test-http_clnt] got IP address 10.0.2.15 > [init -> test-http_clnt] Create new socket ... > [init -> test-http_clnt] Connect to server ... > [init -> test-http_clnt] Send request... > [init -> test-libc_msg_peek] peek: G > [init -> test-libc_msg_peek] peek: E > [init -> test-libc_msg_peek] peek: T > [init -> test-libc_msg_peek] peek: > [init -> test-libc_msg_peek] peek: / (this is just an extract but you get the point) The problem is that this doesn't only account to the recv call but also any further read call will miss the first "peeked" bytes which completely defeats the purpose of MSG_PEEK. Nested threads

Hi all, are nested threads (e.g. a thread class that owns an object of another thread class and starts it from within its entry() method) a special case? I noticed that the terminal session blocked from the inner thread (write was called from the thread but the write implementation of the terminal session was never executed). Putting the inner thread on the same level as the outer one solved the problem. Regards, Johannes

I've noticed that sometimes a double value is rendered strangely in log output. (Genode 18.05, x86_32) E.g. unsigned N1 = 3300; unsigned N2 = 5000 - N1; double div1 = N1 / 1000.0; double div2 = N2 / 1000.0; log(N1,"/1000.=",div1,", ",N2,"/1000. =",div2); // ... [init -> test] 3300/1000.=3.299999, 1700/1000. =1.6a0 I know the log facility is not the place for fancy math-mode, but it would be handy not to have to mentally parse out the extraneous "a". I could file an issue if this is deemed something worth fixing. Maybe there is a workaround short of linking with libc? // Steve
