Sculpt TC - Error Building "image/disk"

Hello, I am happy to report a very smooth initial experience with Sculpt TC running in VirtualBox. I followed the tutorial (skipping the parts about virtualization, of course), and everything went well, with the exception of the minor error I will describe below. The Sculpt Manager is surprisingly convenient and mature, and the under-the-hood improvements are impressive as always. I really like the direction things are moving! My only problem was building the "image/disk" version of the image. For development, I am running an up-to-date Debian Unstable, which has worked well for me so far. Here is the relevant part of the output: checking configuration syntax CHECK init using 'core-nova.o' as 'core.o' Run script aborted because gdisk is not installed Makefile:312: recipe for target 'run/sculpt' failed make: *** [run/sculpt] Error 1 In fact, "gdisk" is installed, but it doesn't run under a normal user. I could hack the scripts to use "sudo", but I thought I'd check here first, in case there is a simple solution (since Ubuntu and Debian usually operate similarly). I obviously don't expect Linux distro tech support - if there isn't an easy answer, I'll just install Ubuntu. Thanks! -- John J. Karcher devuser(a)alternateapproach.com

use of make functions while building libraries in depots

Hello, While debugging the build error in adalib I observe, that the content of a file created by the library make file contains incorrect path information: The line below should write the path to the sources of the ADA runtime library in to a file: $(VERBOSE)$(shell echo $(CONTRIB_DIR)/gcc-$(shell echo $(call _hash_of_port,gcc) | cut -d" " -f1)/src/noux-pkg/gcc/gcc/ada > $(ADA_RTS)/ada_source_path) when I inspect the created file it contains the following: /gcc-/src/noux-pkg/gcc/gcc/ada Some questions arise from this situation: 1) is it ideal to use the source in the contrib directory while building depots or should all source be copied in to the src package? and depending on the answer to the above question: 2) when using the source from contrib how to use the functions while building depots? 3) when copying all source in to the src package, how to handle the changes required to the make file for the library? best regards, Pirmin

Failure of Genode Demo

Hello, This is my first experience with Genode. I am trying to run a demo for Genode 17.05 (with toolchain 17.05, 64 bits), on an Oracle VM VirtualBox (5.2.10-122406) virtual machine, with Linux Ubuntu 16.04.4 (64 bits) OS. I am following the guide on https://genode.org/documentation/developer-resources/getting_started and I have already installed all the packages mentioned in this guide. However, when I try to run a demo using: cd build/x86_64 make KERNEL=linux run/demo the build of Genode succeeds, but the demo fails with the following error message: genode build completed using 'core-linux' as 'core' using 'ld-linux.lib.so' as 'ld.lib.so' using 'linux_timer_drv' as 'timer' spawn ./core Genode 17.05 17592186044415 MiB RAM and 8998 caps assigned to init Warning: blocking canceled in entrypoint constructor Error: Unexpected call of 'block_for_signal' (/genode/genode-17.05/repos/base/src/core/signal_receiver.cc:39) I would be grateful if you could help me to understand the reason for it (I couldn't find the answer on the web). package dependencies

Hi, I ran into a problem when a genode package (pkg) was named both in parent pkg and it's child pkg like this: pkg/A/archives: _/pkg/B _/pkg/C pkg/B/archives: _/pkg/C pkg/C/archives: _/src/D When creating A, make complained of "recursive package dependency" but I'm sure there is no recursion. I then checked tool/depot/mk/dependencies.inc, 121L which yields that error and it looks to me as that code would always detect a paket named twiced in the dependency graph as recursive dependency. Is this intended? And if so, how should we deal with it?
