l4linux booting failure on Genode

Hi, I was trying to run l4linux on Genode following the online tutorials. Compiling was fine. I didnt change any configuration file or script. Everything was in default setting. I failed to boot up the l4linux using either emulators (QEMU, Virtualbox) or a real machine. It just hangs during the boot process and I observed multiple error messages (quota exceeded, illegal announcement of service " Uart", Cannot determine physical address for dataspace Binary! etc). I attached the log file of a typical run on a real machine (Intel Core i7) for your reference. I hope someone could spot some problems in it. Thank you very much! Best regards, Jilong

NOUX limitations

Hello there, Can someone explain the current limitations of NOUX? I set up my own NOUX package, then tried to call POSIX sleep and got the error "Invalid attempt to create a thread besides main". Why is this? I also see that pthreads are not functional for NOUX. Is there a specific reason for this? Can you tell me what your roadmap for NOUX is? Best, Daniel

Run two instances of nic_drv

Hi all, I tried to start 2 instances nic_drv. I patched driver for scan next deviceif IO region already mapped and saw second NIC initialisation. But if started two instances nic_drv then driver didn't receive packet from network. I think it caused IRQ handling. How can I solve this issue? Anyone have ideas about it? -- Ivan Loskutov

live CD + Plan 9

Hi, When do you think the next live CD demo will be available? The Plan 9 Operating System was recently ported to the Raspberry Pi single-board computer. Meanwhile, Genode now works on the Pandaboard single-board computer. Plan 9 is compatable with the Inferno OS, while Genode works with other novel OSs. So, have you ever considered running the Plan 9 Operating System on Genode? Such multi-porting of Plan 9 could act to revitalise this unique OS - and may give Genode a wider audience.

FOSDEM 2013 - Microkernels / Component-based OSes devroom *CALL FOR PARTICIPATION* http://fosdem.org/2013 The developers of several free and open-source component- and/or microkernel-based operating systems will meet at FOSDEM 2013 in Brussels, Belgium and will share a developer room. The devroom is currently looking for content in the form of talks related to the area of component- and/or microkernel-based operating systems. Possible topics include, but are not limited to: * OS introduction to developers of other OS * Subsystems and architecture * Hardware and device drivers * Tools and languages * Release engineering and testing * Experience and learning from mistakes * Technical challenges * Community and life with an OS-project * Academia and education Please send your talk proposal(s) no later than by 2012-12-15 to: microkernel-devroom at lists.fosdem.org Make sure to include the following in your proposal: * title of your talk (will be printed in the FOSDEM booklet) * your full name (will be printed in the FOSDEM booklet) * a short abstract * duration of your talk (please, no longer than 45 minutes) The final devroom schedule (along with accepted talks) will be announced on the above mailing list on 2012-12-22. Moreover, the speakers will be notified via e-mail. The schedule will be also published on the FOSDEM web and in the FOSDEM booklet after 2013-01-10. L2 cache

Hi there. Inspired by article about Genode and Pandaboard, we have tried to turn on L2 cache on same board. Two patches are attached. One of them - new L2 features for foc kernel, extracted from linux and u-boot, the other one - small example for testing cache. This example show increasing performance on memory operations with block sized more then L1. ( We made 4 tests: without L2, block size equal L1, block size equal quarter of L2; with L2 for same blocks) Based on this I make assumption what L2 work correct. But USB host driver is stuck on boot. There were problems of opposition L2 and USB, something has changed? Thanks. -- Sartakov A. Vasily

mke2fs freezes with device-mapper device

Hi! mke2fs with simple block device (l4linux + atapi drv) work's correctly, but if i create encrypted device with cryptsetup, open it (there device mapper file created) and try to create file system (on dm-device) using mke2fs then system freezes(infinitely write to device). I found that problem in fsync call at unix_flush(io_channel channel) function (mke2fs_source/lib/ext2fs/unix_io.c).
