Hello, I would need persistent storage for the Genode project I am working on. I tried to adapt the "repos/os/run/nvme.run" script but I could not get it to run on the base-linux platform. I need the linux platform as I am using lwext4 for the filesystem. As far as I understand, I need to use the lx_block component to manage the storage block inside the guest OS, but in order for this to be persistent I need to mount a backing store file from the host OS. In other words, I want to mount the file bin/ext4.raw as persistent storage mapped to /dev/hdd in the guest OS. I have attached my current iteration of my run script as well as the program files in case someone would like to try to run it. If anyone knows of any repos that have solved this, please let me know! I'm happy to announce the release of Genode version 24.08 today. https://genode.org/news/genode-os-framework-release-24.08 This mid-summer release cycle was very much focused on consolidation work and the upgrade of 3rd-party software, in particular the upgrade of the Qt application framework to version 6 and the move of all Linux-based components and PC drivers to kernel version 6.6.47. The Goa SDK had been a prominent topic over the previous few releases and this one is no exception. Now, all puzzle pieces have fallen into place for seamless remote debugging by combining Goa with Sculpt OS. Change in RockChip repo

Hello! I have updated my genode-rockchip to include RK3399. Unfortunately none of the targets starts using Genode from git. They doesn't survive the jump from bootstrap/ctr0 to bootstrap/init. https://github.com/mickenx/genode-rockchip Michael

fs_tool error

Hello, I have been stuck on this linker error for a while now, and I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix it? I have attached the log file, the run script, the target.mk file, and the three program files (squid.cc and squid.h are based on the code I found in fs_tool). Best, Rumen

ext4.h not found

Hello, I want to test out lwext4, however when I try to compile it, I get an error that ext4.h was not found. I have attached my main.cc, target.mk and squid.run files below. The platform I am using is x86_64 linux. If anyone knows has any idea how to link the lwext4 library please let me know, as I could not find much information online. Best, Rumen

Discourse forum?

Hello everyone, recent activity on the mailing list and issue tracker suggests that our community lacks a public space for causal talk among users. The issue tracker is the time-tested workbench of Genode's developers. As a tool for organizing work and discussing deeply technical topics, it is not conductive for uninitiated people who wish to get engaged with the project. Our mailing list is an adequate medium to get technical questions answered, discussing the road map, or to publish announcements. But its somewhat formal character is inappropriate for causal conversation about topics merely tangential to Genode. The subreddit /r/genode is pretty much deserted. IRC lacks persistence and structure. Recently, I got repeatedly asked for my opinion about creating a Discourse forum or for unlocking the forum functionality of our GitHub project. I would leave the latter unconsidered to keep our dependency from GitHub features at bay. But I'm wondering, would it be worthwhile to consider opening a forum at Discourse [1]? It is open source and can in principle be self-hosted. Unlike proprietary SaaS products, all forum data is portable. [1] https://discourse.org Our small team of Genode Labs is not able to carry the additional burden of operating a self-hosted Discourse instance today. But we'd consider purchasing a forum at discourse.org and cover the expenses. As the forum would be a place for users, it should best be operated and moderated by users, not the Genode developer team. This way, the forum won't have any corporate smell, everyone can be on eye level, and the core developer team won't be consumed by additional responsibilities. This brings me to the following question: Are there volunteers among you who'd like to contribute by assuming the role of administering and moderating of such a forum? Cheers Norman -- Dr.-Ing.
