No audio on T480s.

Dear Genodefolk, Having long wanted to run genode on real hardware, I acquired a Lenovo Thinkpad T480s. Everything seems to work well except that no sound is produced through either speakers or headphones. In particular, I have tried both falkon and chocolatedoom after adding the mixer and audio options. The Fn keys don't seem to alter the situation. reports/log shows [runtime -> audio] azalia0 [8087:9d71] [runtime -> audio] : [runtime -> audio] : azalia0: codecs: Realtek ALC257 ... [runtime -> audio] : audio0 at azalia0 etc No errors are reported that I can see. Any suggestions as to what I might to do to investigate further? Thanks, John

Go to the "Software" tab 2. Choose "Update" 3. Touch the link "http://depot.genode.org ..." 4. Choose https://depot.genode.org/ssumpf 5. Hit "Check for Updates" 6. "2025-10-10" should appear below -> Download -> Install 7. Reboot Note that not everything is working at the moment. Is Block-Persistence Possible on non-Linux base?

Hi, Is there a way to achieve functionality similar to lx_fs on non-base-linux? From what I have read it's not possible to have persistent storage without lx_fs, necessitating the use of base-linux. Please let me know if I missed something in my research. Best, Rumen

Killing a Thread in Base-Linux

Hi, I want to kill a thread in my Genode program and on non-Linux base I currently do this: ```c++ main_obj->_env.cpu().kill_thread(Thread::myself()->cap()); ``` However, this does not work when I use Linux as a base. From what I understand this is due to capabilities being emulated on Linux. Is there a function similar to the one above that will work for Linux? Best, Rumen

Hello everyone, I'm pleased to share the release announcement of Genode 25.08 with you: https://genode.org/news/genode-os-framework-release-25.08 Adhering to this year's leitmotif "rigidity, clarity, performance", the release is primarily focused on optimization work, code rigidity, and scalability improvements. A new kernel scheduler that was especially designed for the user experience of Sculpt OS stands out as a project that has been in the works over a time span of 1.5 years, incorporating scheduling theory, simulating the effects of experimental ideas, attaining a low-complexity implementation in the kernel, and addressing system-integration concerns. Two other lines of work pursued in similar a long-term fashion are the stepwise unlocking of more and more dynamic system scenarios on the seL4 kernel, and the holistic optimization of the framework's block-storage stack. Furthermore, we have updated the arsenal of all Linux-based PC drivers to Linux version 6.12, letting our users combine microkernel architecture with the excellent hardware support of the up-to-date Linux kernel. As a personal highlight, I'm overly happy that my ambition to practically evaluate the move away from XML goes according to plan. The new version provides the hybrid support for both XML and the proposed "human-readable data" syntax. So we can now switch back-and-forth between both formats, gather practical experience, while acquiring a taste for the potential alternative. Tool For Generating Hash For Archive?

Hi, A quick question: is there a specific tool I am supposed to use to generate the hash of my archive? Also, do I hash the content.mk file or the TAR of the src/ directory of my project (or something else entirely)? I tried the tools from the Genode Foundations book: <genode-dir>/tool/depot/build, <genode-dir>/tool/depot/create, and <genode-dir>/tool/depot/extract. Region Map's Permission Difficulties

Hi, I have been having some trouble with the Region Map interface not setting the correct permissions in my specified memory region. I am trying to replicate a similar functionality to rm_nested: ```cpp const addr_t OBJECT_SPACE_START = 0x80000000; const addr_t OBJECT_SPACE_SIZE = 0x40000000; Genode::Env &_env; Genode::Rm_connection _rm{_env}; // To be attached to env's rm Genode::Region_map_client _obj_space{_rm.create(OBJECT_SPACE_SIZE)}; ... Region_map::Attr attributes{.size = OBJECT_SPACE_SIZE, .offset = 0, .use_at = true, .at = OBJECT_SPACE_START, .executable = true, .writeable = true}; addr_t ptr_obj = 0; env.rm() .attach(_obj_space.dataspace(), attributes) .with_result( [&ptr_obj](Genode::Env::Local_rm::Attachment &attachment) { ptr_obj = (Genode::addr_t)attachment.ptr; attachment.deallocate = false; }, [](auto) { error("couldn't attach dataspace!"); throw; }); ``` I expect this code snippet to make the region at 0x80000000 to be rwx, however when I run my program with GDB I see that the permissions are ---p: (gdb) info proc mappings Mapped address spaces: Start Addr End Addr Size Offset Perms objfile 0x80000000 0xc0000000 0x40000000 0x0 ---p I have also tried adding a dataspace capability to _obj_space ( before attaching it to env.rm() ) but that had no effect on the permissions: ```cpp _obj_space.attach(env.ram().alloc(OBJECT_SPACE_SIZE), attributes); ``` Any help / suggestions would be greatly appreciated as I have been stuck on this for quite a while!
