Recent changes in genodelabs/master

Hello, hereby, I'd like to give a heads-up about some changes that recently hit the genodelabs/master branch. Some of them impose minor API changes. Others might just be interesting to look at. C++11 is now enabled by default. The implementation of the convenience function for accessing the process configuration ('Genode::config()') was moved to a library named 'config'. This avoids a possible ambiguity when creating a singleton instance of the 'Config' object. Furthermore, the 'config()' semantics have slightly changed. Earlier versions reflected errors while obtaining the configuration to the application via exceptions ('Xml_node::Invalid_syntax', 'Rom_connection::Rom_connection_failed'). So each program had to handle those. The new version responds to such failures by printing a diagnostic message and handing out an empty '<config/>' node to the application. There is a new utility for dispatching signals in the context of an RPC entrypoint (located at 'os/include/os/signal_rpc_dispatcher.h'). It allows an easy serialization of signal handlers and RPC functions at the server side. To avoid code duplications across current server implementations, there is a new library called 'server', which performs the steps that are similar for typical servers. The interface is located at 'os/include/os/server.h'. The implementation can be found at 'os/src/lib/server/server.cc'. This library implements the 'main' function of the server and executes the actual server-specific initialization code in the context of the server's entrypoint ('construct()'). The 'construct' function gets a reference to an 'Entrypoint' as argument. In contrast to a normal 'Rpc_entrypoint' the new 'Entrypoint' can serve both signal handlers and RPC functions. This eliminates the need to manually synchronize signal handlers (that were typically be called from the context of the main thread) and RPC functions. The nitpicker GUI server has been reworked to use the server library. Thereby the code has become much more robust. At the same time, nitpicker has become able to respond to configuration changes at runtime. If you like to have a look: 'os/src/server/nitpicker/main.cc' The convenience functions at 'os/include/os/session_policy.h' to parse session policies were slightly changed. The old version of 'Session_policy' took a session-argument string as argument. However, merely the session label was actually used to select a policy. The new version introduces a new 'Session_label' type that extracts the session label from the session arguments. The new 'Session_policy' takes a 'Session_label' as argument. generation of booting file

Hi, I wanted to generate a '.elf' file for genode . When i executed the 'make' command in the build directory, i got the following error.. make[2]: *** No rule to make target `jaricom.o', needed by `jpeg.lib.so'. Stop. make[1]: *** [jpeg.lib] Error 2 make: *** [gen_deps_and_build_targets] Error 2 How should i rectify this error and proceed with my task. Thanks & Regards, Harish.

Using C++11 by default

Hello, I would like to go with the times and switch Genode to use C++11 by default. This will enable us to solve a number of problems in a more elegant way, e.g., by using variadic templates for the RPC framework, we can possibly get rid of the current limit of the number of RPC functions supported by the 'GENODE_RPC_INTEFACE' declarations. Are there any objections from Genode users? For example, is anyone of you still using a custom tool chain that does not support C++11? If no one disagrees, I would go forward and add '-std=gnu++11' as default argument to g++. Regards Norman -- Dr.-Ing. Lwip Server Run

when i giving *$* *make run/lwip_lx* i got the following. I trying to run http_srv file in linux platform. if any error, tell me what should be change and what are the things need to run the server using lwip. checking library dependencies... Bringing up Genode run/nested_init on a Beaglebone.

I'm try to get a basic Genode setup working on a Beaglebone Black (TI AM335x processor). I'm using a version of u-boot specifically built for the Beaglebone Black from Robert Nelson's eewiki pages. The only modification I made was to allow for elf file commands. Carefully following how the PandaBoard and the imx53 platforms were build I successfully built from base-hw an elf image for run/nested_init and loaded that onto an SDCard which contained the two stages of u-boot. (Previously, I had succesfuly built a helloworld test version of Fiasco.OC and successfully manually booted it from an SDCard with the same MLO and u-boot.img files. So the basic process of booting an elf image file works.) The elf image is built to load and 0x81000000 with u-boot using the space from start of SDRAM at 0x80000000. The elf file header has an entry point address of 0x81004DC0. Booting the Beagleboard into u-boot from the SDCard, manually loading the elf image file to the load address above, and giving it a"go" command to the entry point address, I get an "application terminated" message as shown below in the console output through minicom: . . . *U-Boot# load mmc 0 0x81000000 image.elf** **reading image.elf** **604700 bytes read in 73 ms (7.9 MiB/s)** **U-Boot# go 0x81004dc0** **## Starting application at 0x81004DC0 ...** **## Application terminated, rc = 0x8108C004** **U-Boot# * At termination, the output above shows rc to be pointed at 4 bytes beyond the start of the bss section of the image. I would have expected to see at least some Genode core debugging messages, at least. Is core not being executed at the entry point? I believe I have the Board_base stucture and cores cpu, pic, platform_support, timer and tlb files correctly set up for the AM335x. Thank you for any help you can provide. Bob Stewart

Genode Source building

Hi, Complete building and installation for Genode source code is not available. So can i follow below steps. will it work ? 1.Extracting available genode.iso 2.compile only particular code (ex:lwip,nic and netperf for improving tcp/ip performance). 3.replace with existing files (lwip,nic and netperf) with extracted directory (at step 1). 4.again make iso for that directory 5.run with qemu. is it correct or not? or any other procedure for building source and creating iso for genode source. Regarding enabling USB 3.0 in Exynos 5 SoC

Hello Genode, I saw that you have successfully enable USB 3.0 in Exynos 5 SoC (Arndale board): http://genode.org/documentation/release-notes/13.05 I'm trying to enable USB 3.0 in native Linux on arndale board and having some trouble. I'm using recent branch of Linux 3.11 kernel with u-boot in Linaro for arndale board. After booting, I can see xhci module is properly installed, but plugging the usb network dongle to USB 3.0 port does not generate any interrupts. Very much appreciate any hints or references for enabling USB 3.0 in native Linux. By any chance, do we have to change some parts in u-boot for power up the USB 3.0? Thanks, Jaeyong

MMIO generation tool

To ease the creation of drivers for Genode I've written a shell script that takes simple Register specs as input and generates appropriate MMIO-framework declarations as output. Hi, I did following steps, cd <genode-dir> ./tool/create_builddir linux_x86 BUILD_DIR=build.lx cd build.lx make run/demo One "Launchpad" window is appeared. After that what can i do.
