Genode Compilation Flags - Optimization

Hi, I've been trying to benchmark two similar programs, one running in the NW and another running in the SW of a i.MX53 QSB. I've adapted the tz_vmm example to run the SW program and the NW program is running on top of Linux. I compiled my NW program with the -O3 optimization flag and I'm wondering if the code in tz_vmm can also be compiled with this flag in order to have the same optimization flag in both scenarios. If it's possible, what do I have to change in order to achieve this? Thanks in advance! Tiago

Fellow Genodians, At Heeselicht, I've been working on my web server. With all your help, I got it working. It's single threaded, slow as molassis and - after fixing some of my null-pointer errors - now runs for more than 5 seconds. Actually, it's quite stable. It has been running for a day and night without hiccups. However, it's slow, I get up to 1500 kB/s when serving a 1.4 MB file. Short files (300 bytes) get served at 5.19 kB/s. So there is plenty of room for improvement given the specs of the hardware. Hardware: - HP ProLiant DL120 G6 (2011) - Pentium G6950 @ 2.80GHz processor - 4GB ECC RAM - Network: on board Broadcom Nextreme BCM5723 with a 100Mb/s uplink - No disk used, the site lives in a tar file loaded by grub at boot It was a pleasure creating this, I hope someone might find it useful too. libport usage and extra inclusion line

Hi Everyone, We're using several libraries in our product, and most of them just work by adding a line like: LIBS = libc However in some cases this is not sufficient. For example lwip requires an additional include directive: INC_DIR += $(REP_DIR)/src/lib/lwip/include (line from repos/libports/src/test/lwip/http_srv_static/target.mk) Leaving out this line will result in a compilation error of a local include file. Looking at various library ports (mbedtls, polarssl, curl, and probably more) we see similar behavior. Usually some library configuration header file should be added manually to the include path to make things work. Adding this extra line for a default library configuration feels redundant, so we're wondering we might do something we're not supposed to do, or should be done in a different way? "focus" module

Hello Genode experts, I am still pretty new to Genode so sorry if this is another trivial question. I am trying to run a script that runs a terminal session in a window. At runtime I'm getting the error 'Could not open ROM session for module "focus"'. I understand that this means that the "focus" module was not loaded into memory at boot but I cannot figure out was "focus" is. I have tried searching for focus through the Genode directories but no luck, (with the notable exception of qt libraries). I also tried adding focus to the boot models list with no luck. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Matt

Questions about the Nic_bridge and VirtualBox bug

Hi, I've been experimenting with the nic_bridge a bit, and I came upon several problems/questions. First, when trying to connect a Linux VM through the bridge, it failed to obtain a IP from the DHCP server. I invistigated a little : the Discover packet get through, but the Offer is never transmitted to the client. The config shouldn't be the problem, considering the network worked fine with static IPs. I'm not sure if it is the origin of the issue, but the handling of the offer packet in nic.cc failed to parse the DHCP options (by adding debug prints in the option() function in dhcp.h, I saw that it got the first one right with the correct length 4, but then jumped 6 octet instead for the next option code). I was also wondering if it would be possible to use several bridges in cascade. If I understand correctly, each Nic session opened on the bridge has an assigned mac address, but would it be feasible to use a single session for a sort of subnetwork? Finally, the recent commits on master (between the 04-11 and the 04-25) have broken my vbox scenario : virtual box refuses to access

Hi, I am running Genode on i.mx53 QSB and was wondering to use a fingerprint scanner such as Adafruit finger print reader to create a virtual fingerprint. Is there any a device driver and library in Genode for a fingerprint scanner? Could you please tell me how to use it? Thanks in advance. Best regards, John

Rust in genode

I am glad to see Rust support being added to genode. How far is this support expected to proceed ? Is a complete Rust based genode being contemplated ? Norman and I had a brief discussion on this a while ago. After that we have started developing a simple rust based microkernel to figure out Rust's suitability as an OS implementation language. I know it can be done but nothing like working code to validate all assumptions ! Going forward we would prefer converting genode to rust rather than doing our own Mk. Converting some components to rust as shown in. 16.05 is the right way to go but was just wondering about the end goal. Madhu
