Considering the fact of faster and real time response with issues and support, i believe an IRC channel would be a of great help. Further, it doesn't hurt of register one so that the channel name it isn't stolen. I have seen this happen.

Chanel "##genode" has been registered by me, for reservation purpose. Chanel "#genode" has been registered by some one else. Seems like we have to ask them politely to release the channel. Please do consider http://freenode.net/group_registration.shtml aswell.
Hello Althaf,
I must admit that I'm not a great proponent of IRC and IRC-based support, but things may change if there grows a vital discussion culture. Unfortunately, I'm often out of office with limited internet access.
To your investigations...

I just checked that. At least to members of the #genode channel ring a bell: Thomas M DuBuisson (tommd) and Taru Karttunen (taruti). IIRC both of them used this mailing list in the last years. So, I do not expect much resistance to adopt the channel.
Regards

I'm in there just because of this thread, but the channel doesn't belong to me (I don't think!). According to freenode, the channel doesn't belong to anyone at this point!
12:24 <tommd> info #genode 12:24 -ChanServ(ChanServ@...94...)- Channel #genode is not registered.
I'd grab it myself, but am neither worried about someone maliciously taking it nor interested in figuring out how to share / give away OP.
Cheers, Thomas

thanks Thomas for the information. I agree that we should not to be too worried about grabbing the #genode channel for now. Before advertising IRC as an official community resource, I'd like to see how serious this channel is going to be used.
Frankly, I'm in a quite similar position as Christian. Because of many time constraints with regard to my working hours and family life, my presence at the IRC would certainly be quite irregular. I'm also a bit afraid that this fully synchronous mode of communication may receive just too much of my attention. At least this was my experience when I was hanging out at #atariscne years ago. .-)
Also, I am bit uncertain about having a further Genode-related communication channel in addition to the Genode.org news, the mailing list, issue tracker, Google+, and Genode Labs news letter.
However, I'd like to give it a go. Let's see what comes out of it.
Cheers Norman

Same here, but for different channels. But I remember having great arguments in #lisp and #stumpwm, so that time wasn't completely wasted. :)

I think IRC could be nice for general discussion and socializing (and solving some hard-to-debug problems that need synchronous communication). FOSDEM may be a good test run. ("If you're not there, meet us online.")
