vbox6-block: hang in linux kernel boot
by Dan Connolly 31 Jan '23

31 Jan '23

As I mentioned, I got vbox6-block to boot using 4 block devices. It boots grub, and I can transfer control to Ubuntu 22.04. I used recovery mode to get a little more info about what's going on. Then after a bit it hangs. The genode logs show lots of "preemption during measurement" warnings. The linux kernel log shows stuff like... start_kernel+0x49a/0x4ca ... Spectre V2 : ... Filling RSB on VMEXIT ... smpboot: CPU0: Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-3320M CPU @ 2.60GHz ... and then... nothing. suggestions? For more config, logs and a screenshot, see... https://github.com/dckc/madmode-blog/issues/49#issuecomment-1409922456 -- Dan Connolly http://www.madmode.com/

vbox6-block: no policy defined for label 'vbox6-block -> block0'
by Dan Connolly 31 Jan '23

I'm struggling to understand how to configure the vbox6-block component. All seems to go well until... [runtime -> ahci-0.part_block] Warning: no policy defined for label 'vbox6-block -> block0' I read up on component configuration; I have a better understanding of it now. https://genode.org/documentation/genode-foundations/22.05/components/Compon… But I don't understand the details of how to configure block services in a launcher. For detailed logs, my launcher config, etc., see: https://github.com/dckc/madmode-blog/issues/49#issuecomment-1407819827 p.s. I got falkon and screenshot working, but in that same issue 49, note problem reports w.r.t - shutdown / acpica - ssh_client - sneakernet (usb_drv) -- Dan Connolly http://www.madmode.com/

Do these symptoms look familiar? Any suggestions on how to fix or further diagnose? [runtime -> vm-block -> vbox] main !!Assertion Failed!! Hello everyone, Is it possible to compile Sculpt using kernel=Linux board=pc ? I am getting this error: checking configuration syntax CHECK init generating initrd cp: cannot stat 'genode/initramfs': No such file or directory while executing "exec cp genode/initramfs init" (procedure "build_initrd" line 16)

vm launcher config for usb devices rom?
by Dan Connolly 29 Jan '23

29 Jan '23

I'm making a vm launcher file; what do I put in there to make the ... ROM (usb devices) -> usb devices rom ... connection noted in https://genodians.org/jschlatow/2022-10-27-fresh-vm-on-sculpt ? I can't configure it with the GUI because the vertical resolution on this ThinkPad T430 is only 900 pixels and the vm config menu is too tall. I see the screen size limitation is known... > That's a known limitation. I agree that it is inconvenient, so I keep it > in the back of my mind. For regular Sculpt power users, it is not really > a pressing issue since the /config/deploy file can be edited directly > also (the graph is just a fancy frontend for editing this file)." -- https://lists.genode.org/pipermail/users/2021-February/007521.html But not being a Sculpt power user, I could use some help. If I were able to use a larger screen and use the graph, what would I see in my vm config? For reference, the log starts out fine: [runtime -> vm -> vbox] main Log created: 2023-01-28T06:30:54.002000000Z ... Now I am getting the vbox6 windows to come up but with a message: FATAL: No bootable medium Found! System halted. I tried changing the storage controller from SATA to IDE but I get the same message. The installer.iso is in the /vm directory. I need help

fec_nic_drv no packet ever send on imx8mm
by Jean-Adrien Domage 27 Jan '23

27 Jan '23

Dear Genodians, I am updating our reference branch to the 22.11 tag for the genode repository and respective references for the genode-world and genode-imx repositories. I am facing an issue with the 'fec_nic_drv' on imx8mm_iot_gate, an "arm_v8a" based board. The driver connects successfully to the "nic_router" uplink session. But no DHCP request is ever received by the DHCP server running on my host. Furthermore, inspecting with Wireshark, no packet is ever sent by the device after the TFTP transmission. After some debugging, I concluded that the driver received a packet to send via the packet stream interface from the "nic router". It is successfully inserted into the driver's tx queue. Finally, I could identify in the mnt_reform2_linux code base "drivers/net/ethernet/freescale/fec_main.c" the function `fec_enet_tx_queue` that seems to process the skb buffer. I would be pleased if someone has been down that path already and could point me out some hints. Unfortunately, there are no warnings or errors that light up. I have attached logs containing some debug messages. Please ignore the missing "report_rom" errors. May I be overlooking something or not looking at the right place? Thanks for your time! :) Best, Jean-Adrien

memcpy_cpu on 64bit arm
by Michael Grunditz 24 Jan '23

24 Jan '23

Hello, Is there any particular reason why it is empty? My rect copy to fb in riscos uses neon. It is a speed gain of about 40% compared to word/long word copy from c. But I don't know how much it affects Genode. It seems like it ends up in /* eight bytes chunks */ but isn't that a byte copy? I have the feeling that in my case, with blit, mem copy without crop is faster than doing it with crop every time. Ram, accesses are proved to be very fast on this hardware. The extra cycles for cropping might be a bottleneck. Combined with a neon run through , testing and copying without leaving routine could probably make a big performance gain. But. I am happy, as always, to be proved wrong! Michael

Hi Colin, I think I found what my problem was, I was not using the right hardware. Now that I am booting from an old 4th generation Intel laptop , the display shows all the settings I need to set up the VM, which interesting enough was shown on > files > config > managed > deploy , where I would of made the same changes , I think
