Adding a new library
by Peter Nguyen 25 Feb '10

25 Feb '10

Hi, I'm now trying to add my own library, and have tried adding the files as part of 'base'. Every time I try to build Genode, i keep getting messages pertaining to undefined references to functions that i have implemented. How do i go about incorporating the files i've written as part of 'base'? I'm sure i've missed something.... Thanks Peter

The new release 10.02 of the Genode OS Framework is available
by Norman Feske 24 Feb '10

24 Feb '10

The release 10.02 again broadens the field of applications for Genode by introducing support for two new kernels: the Codezero kernel and the NOVA hypervisor. The former is primarily targeted at ARM platforms, the latter at x86 virtualization. Moreover, we introduced a management concept for real-time priorities within the framework's API, which can be used in conjunction with the real-time schedulers of the L4ka::Pistachio and OKL4 kernels. Beside many improvements and refinements of the existing parts of the framework, we incorporated the initial port of the Python script interpreter into this release. Release-notes summary for version 10.02 --------------------------------------- * Platform support * NOVA hypervisor * Codezero kernel * New thread-context management * Real-time priorities * Python scripting You can find the complete release notes for the version 10.02 here: http://genode.org/documentation/release-notes/10.02/ The new release is available via the project's subversion repository and at the Genode download page: http://genode.org/download/latest-release Regards -- Norman Feske Genode Labs http://www.genode-labs.com · http://genode.org Genode Labs GmbH · Amtsgericht Dresden · HRB 28424 · Sitz Dresden Geschäftsführer: Dr.-Ing. Building lwip
by Peter Nguyen 22 Feb '10

22 Feb '10

Hi, I'm trying to build the lwip test so that I can make a start on experimentation. However, I keep on getting build errors. To build this package, I included the libports package, and also the libc package. However, I keep getting errors about how size_t hasn't been declared in scope. I also tried including my own definition for size_t, but other errors result. What is the correct way of building the lwip package? Peter

race in oklinux/contrib/arch/l4/kernel/sys_genode.c
by Sven Fülster 17 Feb '10

17 Feb '10

Hi all, you have a race condition in oklinux/contrib/arch/l4/kernel/sys_genode.c resp. oklx_genode.patch lines 1894..1905 #ifdef CONFIG_FB_GENODE + if(genode_input_initialized()) + { + /* Put the input events into our framebuffer driver */ + num = genode_input_flush(); + for(i=0;i<num;i++) { + genode_input_event(i, genode_fb_mouse_event, genode_fb_key_event); + } + } +#endif //CONFIG_FB_GENODE + + genode_lock(timer_main_kernel_lock); which shows up under heavy load (freezing Xfbdev, raising some BUG()s or a pagefault in update_stats_wait_end). Moving the input polling into the critical section solved the problem here: + genode_lock(timer_main_kernel_lock); + #ifdef CONFIG_FB_GENODE + if(genode_input_initialized()) + { + /* Put the input events into our framebuffer driver */ + num = genode_input_flush(); + for(i=0;i<num;i++) { + genode_input_event(i, genode_fb_mouse_event, genode_fb_key_event); + } + } +#endif //CONFIG_FB_GENODE Cheers Sven -- Sven Fülster

Interaction with L4
by Peter Nguyen 01 Feb '10

01 Feb '10

Hi, I'm trying to port some code that I originally implemented in Iguana. This functionality pertains to profiling functionality. In my current setup (ie. with Iguana), I added an L4 system call (OKL4) to start and stop profiling. I'm wondering whether it's possible at all to use OKL4 functionality directly in writing genode apps. The profiling code that I have implemented is L4 code, where some of the code uses OKL4 IPC primitives and a small amount of Iguana based code with regards to creating threads. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Peter N

additional question from "memcpy, strlen etc."
by Peter Nguyen 29 Jan '10

29 Jan '10

As an addition to the previous post by me, I have some pre-existing C code that I want to use in a Genode server I have created, and I don't really want to change this code. Currently, i'm not able to utilize functions like printf, memcpy etc in the C code i've written. What header files can I include to ensure that functions like memcpy and printf work in my code? From what I can see, the build process does not recognize the standard header files at all. Peter

Further response

Hi, In doing some more investigating, for some reason, that message seems to pop up when i instantiate a thread. Before this thread, i instantiate 3 threads, which execute fine, yet when i instantiate this 4th thread, it doesn't work. Furthermore, when i only instantiate this 4th thread (ie. commenting out the 3 previous thread instantiations), this thread works fine. Peter

qt4 on genode 9.11 on l4ka:pistachio
by Tang, Shuo 22 Jan '10

Hi, I am trying to get qt4 on genode 9.11 to work. I am using pistachio. When I try to run a iso using qemu, it halt and give a pagefault on CPU 0. Does anyone have a grub menu list file and genode config file for a qt4 demo? I have no problem running simple genode application on pistachio such as scout. Thanks, Shuo

Thread IDs
by Peter Nguyen 20 Jan '10

20 Jan '10

Hi, So I've done some more messing around with genode (running on top of OKL4), more specifically creating some threads, and testing the functionality in general. I'm wondering how i can go about obtaining the thread's ID and printing it out. I've noticed that there are functions that are within the Thread class that can get me a Native_thread_id, but currently I can't seem to do much with it. Speaking of the native thread, is that type related to L4? Can I actually get a numerical value for that ID? Peter

Build errors
by Peter Nguyen 18 Jan '10

Hi, In running genode with the "hello" app, I keep getting the following message: [init] starting hello_server with quota=262144 [init] using unique child name "hello_server" [init] Warning: Could not open file "hello_server" at ROM service. I also get the same thing with the hello client. Does this mean that the hello app is not loading at all? What do I need to do to fix this? Thanks Peter N
