How to enable GDB for l4linux
by 정복득 27 Feb '12

27 Feb '12

Hi, I'd like to use gdb_monitor to monitor l4linux and processes running on the l4linux. Could you tell me how to write scripts for that? I am running Genode l4linux on Fiasco.oc on qemu (pbxa9). I took references from sample scripts, debug_nitpicker.run and gdb_monitor.run to modify the l4linux script, but failed to run. The script looks like below: Thanks. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- assert_spec foc # # Build # set build_components { core init drivers/timer drivers/uart drivers/framebuffer l4linux app/gdb_monitor } lappend_if [have_spec x86] build_components drivers/nic lappend_if [have_spec pci] build_components drivers/pci lappend_if [have_spec ps2] build_components drivers/input/ps2 lappend_if [have_spec lan9118] build_components drivers/nic build $build_components create_boot_directory # # Config # set config { <config prio_levels="2"> <parent-provides> <service name="ROM"/> <service name="RAM"/> <service name="IRQ"/> <service name="IO_MEM"/> <service name="IO_PORT"/> <service name="CAP"/> <service name="PD"/> <service name="RM"/> <service name="CPU"/> <service name="LOG"/> <service name="SIGNAL"/> </parent-provides> <default-route> <any-service> <parent/> <any-child/> </any-service> </default-route> <start name="timer"> <resource name="RAM" quantum="1M"/> <provides><service name="Timer"/></provides> </start> <start name="uart_drv"> <resource name="RAM" quantum="1M"/> <provides><service name="Terminal"/></provides> <config><policy label="gdb_monitor" uart="1"/></config> </start> } append_if [have_spec pci] config { <start name="pci_drv"> <resource name="RAM" quantum="1M"/> <provides><service name="PCI"/></provides> </start>} append_if [have_spec vesa] config { <start name="vesa_drv"> <resource name="RAM" quantum="1M"/> <provides><service name="Framebuffer"/></provides> </start> } append_if [have_spec pl11x] config { <start name="pl11x_drv"> <resource name="RAM" quantum="1M"/> <provides><service name="Framebuffer"/></provides> </start> } append_if [have_spec ps2] config { <start name="ps2_drv"> <resource name="RAM" quantum="1M"/> <provides><service name="Input"/></provides> </start>} append_if [have_spec x86] config { <start name="nic_drv"> <resource name="RAM" quantum="2M"/> <provides><service name="Nic"/></provides> </start>} append_if [have_spec lan9118] config { <start name="nic_drv"> <resource name="RAM" quantum="1M"/> <provides><service name="Nic"/></provides> </start> } append config { <start name="gdb_monitor"> <resource name="RAM" quantum="132M"/> <config><target name="l4linux"/></config> </start> </config>} install_config $config # <config args="mem=64M console=ttyS0 l4x_rd=initrd.gz"/> # # Boot modules # set boot_modules { core init timer uart_drv l4linux initrd.gz } lappend_if [have_spec pci] boot_modules pci_drv lappend_if [have_spec ps2] boot_modules ps2_drv lappend_if [have_spec pl11x] boot_modules pl11x_drv lappend_if [have_spec vesa] boot_modules vesa_drv lappend_if [have_spec x86] boot_modules nic_drv lappend_if [have_spec lan9118] boot_modules nic_drv if {[have_spec x86]} { set uri "http://genode.org/files/release-11.11/l4lx/initrd-ia32.gz" } elseif {[have_spec arm]} { set uri "http://genode.org/files/release-11.11/l4lx/initrd-arm.gz" } if {![file exists bin/initrd.gz]} { puts "Download initramfs ..." exec >& /dev/null wget -c -O bin/initrd.gz $uri } build_boot_image [join $boot_modules " "] # # Qemu # set local_port 5555 append qemu_args " -m 128 " append qemu_args " -serial unix:/tmp/qemu-pipe,server,nowait " append qemu_args " -serial mon:stdio " append_if [have_spec x86] qemu_args " -net nic,model=e1000 -net user " append_if [have_spec lan9118] qemu_args " -net nic,model=lan9118 -net user " # # Execute test case # run_genode_until {.*Remote debugging using /dev/terminal.*} 30 puts "GDB monitor is up, starting GDB in a new terminal" exec [terminal] -e "[gdb] bin/l4linux -ex \"target remote localhost:$local_port\"" & interact

Fwd: starting something different than make run/demo

Good point .-) Would you mind taking question like these to the mailing list? I am sure other people have similar problems so they could benefit from our discussion. Anyway, I don't want to keep the information from you right now. In short: there exist many different run scripts. Each describes a particular boot scenario. Just have a quick look: find <genode-dir> -maxdepth 3 -name "*.run" You can specify each of those run-script names to 'make run/...' in your build directory. For example, to build and run, let's say vim, change to your OKL4 build directory and issue the following command: make run/noux_vim Not all run scripts work across all platforms. In the case of doubt, just risk a look inside the respective run script. I just noticed that there doesn't exist a ready-to-use run script for Arora. Maybe we should create one? The 'qt4.run' script could serve as a nice starting point. For the networking part, the 'lwip.run' script may be useful to look at. -- Alexandre Bique

fopen() in Genode?
by Sam Kerr 14 Feb '12

How can I use fopen() and write a file to disk? When I run the function below: void file_pass() { printf("File pass\n"); char buffer[] = {'s', 'a', 'm'}; FILE* f = fopen("temp","w"); fwrite(buffer, 1, 3, f); fclose(f); } I get the error: no plugin found for open("temp", int) Can anyone offer some advice? I am using L4Pistachio as my base.

Hi When I try to load "core" I get this: Loading sigma0 Loading genode/core To be loaded binary region is out of memory region. Binary region: 140000 - 180c08 The binary itself is not big. Is there anything in core I can check? Best regards Michael Grunditz

thread_switch_to

I have a question about 'static inline void thread_switch_to(Native_thread_id tid)'. This function shall yield to a given thread, but what is the expected behavior if the targeted thread exists and is started but also paused? Greets, Martin

How to configure networking in L4 Android?
by e.fedotov 30 Jan '12

Hello, All. Is there any possibility to set up the internet connection in L4 Android included in Genode 11.11 (ARM pbx-a9 build), running under QEMU emulator? QEMU networking is configured: -net nic,model=lan9118 so i have internet connection in L4 Linux, but not in L4 Android: Best Regards, Evgeny.

Framebuffer API change
by Norman Feske 25 Jan '12

25 Jan '12

Hello, as intermediate step to support the dynamic resizing of frame buffers, I have revisited the 'Framebuffer::Session' interface and thereby broke API compatibility. The following changes are worth noting: * The former 'Session::info' is no more. This function was a relict from the early days when we used to pass out parameters via pointers. * The new 'mode' function returns a structured object of the type 'Framebuffer::Mode' that contains the mode information and pixel- format definitions. * The new 'mode_sigh' function enables a client to register a signal handler at the framebuffer session. This signal handler gets notified in the event of server-side mode changes. * Via the new 'release' function, the client is able to acknowledge a mode change. By calling it, the client tells the server that it no longer uses the original framebuffer dataspace. So the server can replace it by a new one. After having called 'release', the client can obtain the dataspace for the new mode by calling 'dataspace()' again. For now, the primary motivation for this change is our desire to have resizable virtual framebuffers (i.e., adding a resizing capability to liquid fb). In the future, we envision the same mechanism to be used to dynamically change physical framebuffer modes as well. Redundant github refs with rebase
by Martin Stein 25 Jan '12

Is there any idea to avoid redundant issue reference messages when using 'ref #X' in a commit message and the commit gets often rebased? To me it seems that rebasing is a very essential and often used. Greets, Martin

[RFC] I guess we need an IRC channel at Freenode
by Althaf 20 Jan '12

Considering the fact of faster and real time response with issues and support, i believe an IRC channel would be a of great help. Further, it doesn't hurt of register one so that the channel name it isn't stolen. I have seen this happen. -- /althaf k backer/
