Pci driver can not handle multiple root complex system
by Jilong Kuang - SISA 01 Aug '13

01 Aug '13

Hi all, I just found out current Genode pci driver does not support a system with multiple root complexes. More specifically, in the bus_valid() function, it only scans all the devices under the first root complex (starting from bus number 0). As a result, other devices under different root complexes are considered INVALID, thus will be skipped by pci driver code. Maybe a simple patch will fix the problem. Join the celebration of our 5th anniversary
by Norman Feske 30 Jul '13

30 Jul '13

Hello everyone, the upcoming version 13.08 scheduled for August will mark the 5th anniversary of Genode, which we want to celebrate. >From a technical point of view, the past year was rich of achievements worth celebrating, ranging from the profound support for hardware virtualization and IOMMUs on the x86 architecture, over the coverage of modern ARM-based hardware platforms, up to the ability of Genode to self-host itself. From the perspective of the business of Genode Labs, we are happy to continue our walk on the path of self-funded organic growth, welcoming Martin Stein and Josef Söntgen as regular members of our team. We invite you to celebrate the 5th anniversary of Genode together with us. If you feel connected to the technology we are building or to us as a company, we would be excited to meet you at our barbecue and campfire at the traditional riverside location: Google Maps: http://goo.gl/maps/C0luj 15th of August, 6 pm near Moritzburger Str. 1 in Dresden, Germany If you like to spend a relaxing evening together with the Genode team and friends, enjoy barbecue and beverages, or if you just like to take the opportunity to catch up, please send a brief notice until 12th of August to info@...1... Re: Which Genode source code to download

Hi Is it better to clone from genode's github repo or will the sourceforge zipfile do? Because, in many of the queries, a factor of 'not using latest Genode' pops up. Thanks and Regards Aditya

Genode Hack'n Hike 2013
by Norman Feske 25 Jul '13

25 Jul '13

Hello, I'd like to share the following excerpt of the latest Genode-Labs newsletter with you: Join us at Genode's Hack'n Hike event ------------------------------------- In spring of 2012, we held the first instance of the Genode Hack'n Hike, which were wonderful days full of hacking, relaxing, brain- storming, and enjoying the magnificent nature of the Saxon Switzerland together. From the feedback we got from the attendees, it goes without saying that this should not stay a singular event, but rather be the prelude of a tradition. Hence, we have fixed the date for this year's Hack'n Hike: Begin: Wednesday, September 11 End: Monday, September 16 We extended the duration of the event over that of last year's. Whether you'd like to drop by for just a few hours, or you'd like to stay for the whole time, you are welcome to join in. Genode Labs will sponsor the accommodation. So don't worry too much about the costs. As of now, we haven't finalized the decision about the venue, but you can be sure that it will be a beautiful and romantic place, presumably in Saxony/Germany or Bohemian Switzerland in Czech Republic. If you have particular preferences regarding the accommodation or leisure-time activities, then the best time to get in touch with us is now. Also, if you plan attending, we'd greatly appreciate a short notice, which will help us with planning ahead. Please write to: hacknhike@...1... We at Genode Labs are looking forward to the gathering of the Genode community in autumn and would love to welcome you! ------ For the full newsletter, please refer to http://genode-labs.com/news/newsletter/newsletter-2013-05 Cheers Norman -- Dr.-Ing. Genode Fiasco.OC kernel changes
by Daniel Waddington 18 Jul '13

18 Jul '13

Hi, Can someone point me to the relevant Fiasco.OC kernel changes made by Genode that might prevent the following error... Could not assign parent interface to new PD unknown exception? This is from vanilla r56 of Fiasco.OC. I'd like to see if I can get r56 running on Genode (to help me fix other issues). Daniel

More mapping issues.
by Daniel Waddington 17 Jul '13

17 Jul '13

Hi, I am still struggling with memory mapping issues. Unfortunately I cannot give a simple test case. We have a large memory hungry programming running on x86_64 Fiasco.OC. During the initialization of memory (using sub-rm dataspace and attach mappings) we suddenly (mid-way through) get "Ipc error 16 in pagefault from 0". Looking up error code 16, I see its L4_IPC_SEMAPFAILED which suggests that the implicit IPC send mapping of the flex page failed in the kernel. Is this correct? Kernel func map<Mem_space> is failing but I can't find the implementation to track it further. Anyone know where it is? Also, any advice on how to go about diagnosing this? Thanks Daniel

Again thanks for your reply , the board we are using is Nitrogen 6X ,now the size of our uncompressed file is 4.2MB and compressed is 1.8 MB , the RAM base address of our board is 0x10000000 and RAM size is 0x40000000 , we tried booting by assigning load address as 0x10001000 and the entry point as 10001000 and tftp 0x10800000 . We are stuck at starting kernel Bytes transferred = 1829585 (1bead1 hex) U-Boot > bootm ## Booting kernel from Legacy Image at 10800000 ... Hi thanks for the reply,I am Archie working with Aditya on this . Dataspace juju
by Daniel Waddington 11 Jul '13

11 Jul '13

Hi, We're having bad juju with dataspaces. As we try larger dataspaces things seem to go wrong (like hanging, bad mappings and exceptions). Can someone check out my test program.. https://github.com/dwaddington/genode/blob/master/testing/src/core-api-1/ma… and see what is going on? Basically if you change the total memory use in the program (line 26) to something ~ > 512MB, then region conflicts happen. I tried this out this test on both fiasco.oc and nova with qemu and real PCs. Same result. The NOVA run reports an "unresolvable exception" by pager:core-api-1. I could of course be doing something wrong with the APIs. Daniel

Hi, Whats the limitation on how much a process can env()->rm_session()->attach(...)? Is this a thread-safe API? Thanks Daniel
