Create VESA Modes
by Nobody III 29 Nov '14

29 Nov '14

Based on the readme for the VESA driver, my HD monitor won't work at full resolution in Genode. I had this same problem with Windows XP, which I was able to solve with DTDCalculator, a tool which let me create custom video modes. Since 1920x1080 was blacklisted (or something like that), I set the screen resolution to 1920x1081. Could functionality like this be added to Genode?

HI, while running Netperf on Raspberry PI and doing the TCP_STREAM from remote pc I got low throughput . when i tried to trace the communication using Wireshark i mentioned lot of TCP Re-transmission. about 20% of the packet re transmitted, Is that normal? best. Mohammad

Linux as a guest OS of bare-HW on i.MX6 in the Normal World
by Mahdi Aichouch 28 Nov '14

Hello, I have a running version of the bare-hw (no trustzone) on the ARM Cortex-A9 Freescale i.MX6 Sabre SD board. I would like to test a Linux as a guest OS on top of bare-hw and the VMM in the Normal World. Does anyone have tried to test this configuration? Is it possible to share the steps to build such a working configuration? Thank you very much in advance. Best regards, Mahdi

Announcement: Genode OS Framework version 14.11 released
by Christian Helmuth 28 Nov '14

28 Nov '14

With this year's November release we close one of the last functional gaps to employ Genode as day-to-day operating system on modern laptops. The support for Intel WiFi hardware incl. WPA comes as a component that just snaps in place beside out support for wired NICs. The second major improvement is the new scheduler for or custom HW kernel that supports trading of CPU resources among Genode subsystems, similarly to how memory is managed on Genode. The highlights of this release are - Intel wireless stack - New CPU scheduler for the base-hw kernel - New dynamic linker - VirtualBox version 4.3.16 running on NOVA - Updated Seoul VMM running on NOVA - New GUI-architecture components - Improved integration of Qt5 - Extended Raspberry-Pi driver support - Tool-chain update to GCC 4.7.4 The whole story is available in the release documentation http://genode.org/documentation/release-notes/14.11 Happy hacking -- Christian Helmuth Genode Labs http://www.genode-labs.com/ · http://genode.org/ https://twitter.com/GenodeLabs · /ˈdʒiː.nəʊd/ Genode Labs GmbH · Amtsgericht Dresden · HRB 28424 · Sitz Dresden Geschäftsführer: Dr.-Ing. For VESA you just have to make the right calls (do not remember them from the top of my head, but they are in the spec) into the VESA Bios to read the EDID. Then you are good to go. Detect Monitor Resolution

A common feature in modern operating systems is automatic detection of a monitor's ideal/native resolution. How feasible would it be to add this to Genode?

Hi all, I saw some variable set in.. genode/repos/os/src/server/tz_vmm/imx53/ enum { KERNEL_OFFSET = 0x8000, MACH_TYPE_TABLET = 3011, MACH_TYPE_QSB = 3273, BOARD_REV_TABLET = 0x53321, }; static const char* cmdline_tablet = "console=ttymxc0,115200"; I want to set these variable for my board. where should i get these value ?? Thanks Franc

Priorities
by Nobody III 27 Nov '14

How exactly do priorities work in Genode (e.g. do higher-priority tasks get access to the CPU at the expense of lower-priority tasks whenever they want, or is it more like the Linux scheduler's niceness?)
