Re: Genode Hack'n Hike 2013
by Norman Feske 23 Mar '15

23 Mar '15

Hello everyone, the date for this year's Genode Hack'n Hike held during 11-16 of September is approaching. Genode's developers will spend those days in the beautiful scenery of the Bohemian Switzerland, relaxing, hiking, and hacking on fun side projects. The Hack'n Hike will be the perfect setting for getting involved with the community, catching up, or just hanging out with the Genode crowd. There is still room for more participants. Genode Labs sponsors the event. So your participation/accommodation is free. If you like to join in, please get in touch by writing to hacknhike@...1... or commenting on https://github.com/genodelabs/genode/issues/793. Re: Tutorials on porting 3rd party source/library
by Aditya Kousik 21 Mar '15

21 Mar '15

Hello all, I've gotten back into Genode dev after nearly a year. I was going through the porting guide, and I'm stuck. I initialized the prepare_port script for dosbox and set a build directory for linux_x86. But running either make app/dosbox and run/dosbox gives an Error 255 : No run script for dosbox. Where am I going wrong? Secondly, about the LIBS variable: Does it link libraries already ported for the Genode platform, or the libraries from the Linux system? Thanks and regards, Aditya.

Hi everyone. Hi everyone！ I have been read the official document： http://www.genode.org/documentation/developer-resources/porting <http://www.genode.org/documentation/developer-resources/porting> I know the basic steps to port driver to genode. but i have some question：how can i write a port file？i don’t know what thing should write in a port file？ only include License ,version, downloads, URL,SHA,DIR.patches，patch_ot. is’t ok? what the relationship between port file and hash file?

Virtualbox + rump_fs + qemu
by a3an 16 Mar '15

16 Mar '15

Hello, I am trying get Virtualbox using rump_fs in a qemu environment. I am using a modified virtualbox.run script called vb_ide.run. Eventually Virtualbox is started as follows: qemu-system-x86_64 -no-kvm -cpu core2duo -m 512 -boot order=d, -hda /GV/QV.img -serial mon:stdio -cdrom var/run/vb-ide.iso Device -hda contains an ext2 filesystem upon which an original VirtualBox VMs directory environment is installed. The following is part of the init script that is used. <start name="atapi_drv"> <resource name="RAM" quantum="5M"/> <provides><service name="Block"/></provides> <config ata="yes"/> </start> <start name="rump_fs" priority="-1"> <resource name="RAM" quantum="32M" /> <provides><service name="File_system"/></provides> <config fs="ext2fs"><policy label="" root="/" writeable="yes"/></config> </start> <start name="virtualbox" priority="-2"> <resource name="RAM" quantum="750M"/> <config vbox_file="w7.vbox" vm_name="w7"> <libc stdout="/dev/log" stderr="/dev/log"> <vfs> <dir name="dev"> <log/> </dir> </vfs> </libc> </config> </start> This part of the script and a similar qemu invocation have been used in a variation of the rump_ext2 script as well and works fine. The NOVA hypervisor is booted from -cdrom the programs are loaded from -cdrom as well. The test program issues filesystem operation resulting in manipulations of the filesystem on device -hda. When stating Virtualbox however, is does not work. Everything starts fine, however, virtualbox does not seem to use rump_fs (I have placed a PWRN message in the rump_fs server code that did not show up). It terminates because it cannot find w7.vbox. Can't run Android on Pandaboard
by Zachary 16 Mar '15

Hi all, I want to run Android using Genode foc on Pandaboard referencing to "http://sourceforge.net/p/genode/mailman/message/30642833/" Now, I compile and get a image. When I run the image, I only get a black window with a penguin on it. This my operation: 1) Format my SD card to 3 partitions. 2) Copy the system-ginger.img via "dd" to the second partition: sudo dd if=system-ginger of=/dev/sdb2 bs=1M 3) Build the image using the run script blew 4) Copy the image to the first partition of the SD card This is my run script: # # Build # if {[have_spec foc] == 0} { puts "Runs on Fiasco.OC only" exit 0 } # generic components set build_components { core init drivers/timer drivers/framebuffer drivers/sd_card drivers/usb drivers/gpio server/nitpicker server/nit_fb server/nic_bridge server/part_blk server/terminal server/terminal_log l4android } build $build_components create_boot_directory # Fwd: Genode on iMX53 with TrustZone
by Martin Stein 16 Mar '15

-------- Forwarded Message -------- Subject: Genode on iMX53 with TrustZone Date: Thu, 12 Mar 2015 16:05:30 +0900 From: JaeminPark <jmpark81@...9...> To: martin.stein@...1... Dear, I’m writing this e-mail to ask you some questions to build and boot Genode with TrustZone into FreeScales iMX53 QSB. According to the article in https://sourceforge.net/p/genode/mailman/message/33584768/, I could build and boot (maybe) Genode in my iMX53 board. Through the serial, I only could see the log as bellow : /…/ /Starting kernel …/ / / /kernel initialized/ /Genode 15.02/ /init main() : — create local services —/ /…/ /[init -> tz_vmm] Start virtual machine…/ After this log, I could see only blinking prompt. Is this successful boot of Genode with TrustZone? If possible, can you provide me with successful log on iMX53 QSB? Furthermore, I’d like to boot guest OS (normal world OS) after booting up Genode with TrustZone. Is there any way for this? I’m looking forward to your response, and thank you very much in advance. Re: SMC on i.mx6
by Vincent Raes 12 Mar '15

Hello, Thank you for the advice. I performed some checks to see in what exact mode the 'smc' instruction is executed and it is supervisor mode which is a privileged mode so no problems there. This leads me to believe there is indeed something which goes wrong with the instruction itself. Since I do not have access to a JTAG debugger, trying to find out what kind of exceptions are taken seems to be the best course of action. As for what stop means, it is literally just that, it stops. I get all the output I would expect right up to the point where the 'smc' instruction is issued. After that, nothing happens. At least not in the normal world since I have tried running a different thread next to the one that performs the hypercall. This secondary thread should periodically print some output but remains silent all the time. The secure world does not give any signs of life either which is the main reason I'm posting here. As far as I can see, this non responsiveness from the secure world may make it hard to get the base-hw kernel that's running there to actually see what exception is taken but I'll give it a shot. And I am using 2 different genode kernels in the secure and normal world. The normal kernel is treated like the Linux kernel in the tz_vmm example. I simply manually place the binary image of the kernel in the bin folder so the run script can package it with the secure kernel. An in-depth look into the ARM virtualization extensions
by Stefan Kalkowski 12 Mar '15

12 Mar '15

Hello everyone, as already announced, Genode's recent release 15.02 introduces virtualization support for ARM to our custom base-hw kernel. Due to the brisk demand regarding our prior article about ARM TrustZone, we decided to provide in-depth information about our virtualization work again. If you are interested in this topic, you may consider the following article, which was published right now: http://genode.org/documentation/articles/arm_virtualization I hope it provides a helpful insight into ARM virtualization in general and our related work in particular. Best regards Stefan -- Stefan Kalkowski Genode Labs http://www.genode-labs.com/ · http://genode.org/
