Custom implementation of core services
by David Werner 14 Mar '16

Hi Genode-mailing-list, i have a little problem with my ram and rm custom implementations. When i try to create a child component which uses my custom sessions/services by running the following code: int main(void) { PDBG("--- start proxy_server ---\n"); PDBG("--- announcing proxy services --- "); Cap_connection cap; static Sliced_heap sliced_heap(env()->ram_session(), env()->rm_session()); enum { STACK_SIZE = 8*1024 }; static Rpc_entrypoint ep(&cap, STACK_SIZE, "proxy_ep"); static Proxy::Prm_root prm_root(&ep, &ep, &sliced_heap); PDBG("PRM_root created and back in server-main!"); static Proxy::Pram_root pram_root(&ep, &ep, &sliced_heap); PDBG("PRAM_root created and back in server-main!"); env()->parent()->announce(ep.manage(&prm_root)); PDBG("PRM service announced!"); env()->parent()->announce(ep.manage(&pram_root)); PDBG("PRAM service announced!"); PDBG("--- starting test child ---"); /* Creating session for child environment */ static Rom_connection rom("proxy_test_client"); static Pd_connection pd; static Proxy::Pram_connection pram; <---------------- custom service, execution fails here. static Cpu_connection cpu; static Proxy::Prm_connection prm; <---------------- custom service static Cap_connection child_cap; /* declaring ref account for child's ram session and transferring quota */ enum { CHILD_QUOTA = 1*1024*1024 }; pram.ref_account(env()->ram_session_cap()); env()->ram_session()->transfer_quota(pram.ram_cap(), CHILD_QUOTA); /* creating test child */ Test_child proxy_test_child(rom.dataspace(), pd.cap(), pram.cap(), cpu.cap(), prm.cap(), &child_cap); PDBG("--- proxy_server is going to sleep ---"); sleep_forever(); PDBG("Server still awake - This output should not be reached!"); return 0; } I get this output: Genode 15.11-71-g2e0e767 int main(): --- create local services --- int main(): --- start init --- int main(): transferred 112 MB to init int main(): --- init created, waiting for exit condition --- [init] Could not open ROM session for module "ld.lib.so" [init -> proxy_server] int main(): --- start proxy_server --- [init -> proxy_server] int main(): --- announcing proxy services --- [init -> proxy_server] Proxy::Prm_root::Prm_root(Genode::Rpc_entrypoint*, Genode::Rpc_entrypoint*, Genode::Allocator*): Creating Prm_root_component... When running a component which is started by init and which is no child of my server component opening a connection to my custom service works perfectly fine. I'd be very grateful for a little bit of help here. Best regards, David

Hi I ran it without qemu like you suggested and it worked :-) Thank you! service routing
by Nobody III 11 Mar '16

11 Mar '16

I've been thinking about how to make a Genode desktop OS, and one of the main issues is service routing. Genode currently works well for static, pre-defined scenarios, but has issues when you try to create complex, dynamic scenarios. When adding a single component, I've often had to add to the policy configurations of multiple core servers. This is far from ideal. I have two ideas to help solve this issue: 1. Add a server dedicated to routing services. This server would request services for other components using its own label, so it can use its own policy rules rather than those of the individual servers. 2. Give init the ability to provide services from its children to its parent and siblings.

running demo scenario over sel4
by Robert Behar 10 Mar '16

10 Mar '16

I'm interested in using genode over sel4 and have been having difficulties with building and running the demo scenario I am running ubuntu 15 over virtual box first I pulled the full main branch from the repository. I then compiled the tool chain for x86 by running ./tool/tool_chain x86 then i created a build directory like so ./tool/create_builddir sel4_x86_32 BUILD_DIR=build.sel4 so far success. then I wanted to prepare the ./repos/base-sel4 directory with a make -C ./repos/base-sel4 prepare but alas no Makefile was there! after digging a bit and reading through ./repos/base-nove/Makefile I decided to run ./tool/ports/prepare_port sel4 which worked. now with sel4 prepared i went back to trying to run make -C ./build.sel4 run/demo this failed it said it was missing a timer component! I suspect this has something to do with ./repos/os/src/drivers/timer/spec not having a folder for sel4. am I missing something?

Hi Sorry about the lack of details. It is possible that it's just too fast. I'm simply having difficulties clicking on anything because the mouse pointer moves around so quickly. I'm running genode with qemu on Ubuntu on macbookpro via parallels. It is a usb trackball which works fine on Ubuntu and OS X. Kind regards Bent Bracke > On 7. mar. 2016, at 17.14, Norman Feske <norman.feske@...1...> wrote: > > > Hello Bent, > >> In all the examples that come with Genode, the mouse pointer moves at >> what seems like an erratic speed. >> Is this a driver issue or something else? > > I am afraid that your question is too unspecific to give you a good > answer. Mouse pointer speed

Hi In all the examples that come with Genode, the mouse pointer moves at what seems like an erratic speed. Is this a driver issue or something else? -- Kind regards Bent Bracke

tz_vmm run script
by John David 07 Mar '16

Hi all, I am running tz_vmm run script on i.mx53qsb. I have LVDS display kit attached to the board. I want the Linux (non secure world) to be displayed on the LVDS while the Genode uses the serial console. I wonder if you could tell me how can i do this. Thanks!

build instructions from release notes for toolchain riscv fail (in my case)
by Menno Valkema 04 Mar '16

04 Mar '16

Hi Everyone, While playing around with the new riscv support, I followed the instructions in the release notes in order to build a riscv toolchain from scratch. (See section 'Steps to test Genode on RISC-V', url http://genode.org/documentation/release-notes/16.02). Step 2 involves Building Genode and a test scenario. After cloning https://github.com/ssumpf/genode.git I ran: $ ./tool/tool_chain riscv This fails immediately, and it seems the riscv argument is not supported in this version. The following error is given: make: *** No rule to make target `riscv'. Stop. When I try the same thing with the repository from the Genodelabs github (https://github.com/genodelabs/genode.git) this argument is supported and a build starts. Same goes for the next step: $ ./tool/create_builddir hw_risc This only succeeds with the repository from genodelabs. Otherwise it gives the error: make: *** No rule to make target `<removed full path>/tool/builddir/etc/build.conf.hw_risc', needed by `<removed> full path/build/hw_risc/etc/build.conf'. Stop. To me it seems some url's might have been mixed up while writing the release notes. Or after writing the releasenotes were published the repositories have somehow been modified. In any case, if you run into the same issues, you might want to clone https://github.com/genodelabs/genode.git instead of the git repo given in the release notes. Regards, Menno
