Works on PinePhone Pro Explorer?

Hello, I have the pinephone pro explorer edition, which is a bit newer and has more features than basic pinephone. It was released a long time before Genode 23.02, however I am not sure if the recent Genode update will work on this hardware. I have been eagerly following Genode in hopes for when it will work on my PCs. Thanks for your feedback and reply, DV03

Rockchip USB revisited

Hi I am trying to bring up EHCI using the A64 driver. I configiured build system to download a tar ball with linux kernel. However in the: "CONFIG Linux" step I get this: Makefile:621: arch/arm64/Makefile: No such file or directory Which is natural since the source tree in depot isn't configured. So the first questions is; when is the tree configured? Michael

iwlwifi-9260-firmware

Dear Genodians, I am planning on using sculpt on my razer blade 15 from 2015. It was straightforward to boot it. However, wifi networking won't work. After some investigations, only the intel 'iwlwifi-9260-firmware' needs to be included for it to work. I forked 'dde_linux_firmware' [1] and created a pull request [2] to add the firmware and the license. Please let me know if this is appropriate. Finally, I have a branch that implements the necessary changes on the genode repository [3]. It currently uses my fork of 'dde_linux_firmware' in 'dde_linux/ports/linux-firmware.port'. Wifi now works on my laptop. If [2] is correct and accepted. I can adapt those changes if welcome to create a pull request for the genode repository. PinePhone Sculpt Build Problems - Almost There

Hello All, Thanks to Norman's quick response, my PinePhone Sculpt build has progressed a lot further! Now it is breaking on what seems like an easy problem: created genodelabs/pkg/sculpt/2023-03-14 make[1]: Leaving directory '/home/mainuser/Devel/genode_main/genode/build/arm_v8a' Error: sculpt/launcher/report_dump not present in any repository make: *** [Makefile:431: run/sculpt_image] Error 248 I've done some rudimentary poking around to see it I could either remove "report_dump" from the Sculpt configuration or add it, but I don't know enough to accomplish either yet. Could someone give me a quick pointer to how this is configured? Also, any thoughts on why "report_dump" would be "not present"? And while on the topic, the "SCULPT=phone" item of the make command is intriguing - if one wants to create a customized Sculpt variant, how does one go about that? PinePhone First Impressions & Questions

Hello All, I have had my PinePhone running the first Sculpt image for a couple of weeks now. I don't have anything interesting to report beyond what others have said - the system boots in about 5 seconds, the Leitzentrale UI is intuitive and smooth, the battery indicator isn't very accurate, etc. Unfortunately, I also have a problem that seems to be common for various reasons - I don't have data connectivity. In my case, it's because I have a talk/text-only plan, but I can't test the phone functions either because my SIM card (T-Mobile USA) is not recognized. I am itching to try the various presets, and was wondering if any of the following ideas would be feasible: - Providing an on-disk depot for the presets. (Excluding the web browser, which would be useless without connectivity anyway, seems like it would keep the size down.) - Letting us know when the WiFi or wired LAN drivers are ready for testing, even if it's before the next release. (I have the USB network dongle, so either one would work for me.) I am currently having trouble building the PinePhone Sculpt image from source (which I will address in a separate message), but I will be happy to do custom builds if necessary (including for SIM debugging). PinePhone Sculpt Build Problems

Hello All, I am trying to build the PinePhone sculpt image from source, using the "First system image of mobile Sculpt OS" Genodians article and the various "README" files as guides. First, I made the recommended changes to "build.conf" (hopefully correctly). When running "make run/sculpt_image KERNEL=hw BOARD=pinephone SCULPT=phone DEPOT=omit", it eventually gives the following error: including /home/mainuser/Devel/genode_main/genode/tool/run/image/uboot including /home/mainuser/Devel/genode_main/genode/repos/allwinner/tool/run/image/pine_uboot_sdcard including /home/mainuser/Devel/genode_main/genode/tool/run/boot_dir/hw including /home/mainuser/Devel/genode_main/genode/repos/gems/run/sculpt_image.run can't read "arg": no such variable while executing "puts stderr "missing run-tool argument: $arg"" (procedure "assert_run_arg" line 4) invoked from within "assert_run_arg "--image-uboot-gzip-best"" (file "/home/mainuser/Devel/genode_main/genode/repos/gems/run/sculpt_image.run" line 34) ... This is too cryptic for me, as I am anything but a build system expert. The following steps may be unnecessary, but I was just trying things that seemed reasonable. Running "prepare_port pine_uboot" worked fine, but "make u-boot/pine BOARD=pinephone" says: checking library dependencies... Hello Genodians My first tests of Sculpt OS on the PinePhone. The startup time of the Operating system really impresses me. Not to wait for the phone for a minute or so after powering on is super cool. The GUI is really functional and lets me change settings really quick. It may not be as pretty as the one in slowly booting operating systems, but navigating around is much more logical IMHO. Unfortunately I wasn't able to do any calls. When I turned the power on for the Modem, some steps were counted up (four if I remember correctly), but after that a Message (unknown pin starte) was printed. for some time (maybe 15 Seconds). After that the dial-pad was displayed. After entering a number and pressing "Initiate Call" the status "Dialing xxx xxx xx xx [cancel]" was displayed, but nothing happened. I was able to cancel the call, but I wasn't able to torn off the modem again. I was able to download the morph browser preset, but did not do further testing yet. One thing I noticed, when lowering the brightness to the lowest setting, the screen seems to turn completely off. I was still able to set the brightness back to a level where the screen is visible. So this is only a minor issue. Am I right to assume, that keeping the settings persistent over reboots isn't yet implemented? As I prefer longevity above performance for my phone, I did set "economic" and a relatively low display brightness, but after each reboot they are back to the defaults. I did set the first partition of mmcblk0 to default after expanding it. This worked as flawless as on the PC platform. Regards, Pirmin

Unable to connect to network in QEMU.

Dear Genodians, I am unable to connect to network while running the sculpt 22.10 x86 image provided by genode in QEMU. But I am able to connect to the network while using the sculpt.ova in virtual box. How can I connect to network while using sculpt in QEMU?

Since Sculpt OS 22.10 wouldn't boot for me, I'm using images that Alex kindly made for me in the course of troubleshooting that. In the log, this calls itself "Genode 23.02-24-g23bbbcd8ac <local changes>". Anyway, the hard drive. It's an actual, old-fashioned hard drive, and I've accumulated 21 partitions on it.
