Announcement: Genode OS Framework version 22.02 released

We just released Genode version 22.02 today. https://genode.org/news/genode-os-framework-release-22.02 One highlight of this version is the transformation of Sculpt OS into a framework for custom system images, thereby making Sculpt's flexible architecture easily available for the creation of special-purpose OS appliances. A first example of such an appliance is the bare-bones Sculpt OS version for the Pinephone that I demonstrated at my recent FOSDEM talk. Another example is the ability to run Sculpt OS atop Linux for rapid development and debugging. Another major feature is the new ability to use 3D acceleration for guest OSes running in VirtualBox 6. This became possible thanks to various optimizations and robustness improvements of the underlying Intel GPU stack. A third prominent topic is the continued work on device drivers. This time, we started to apply our new DDE-Linux approach to PC drivers, taking a fresh port of a USB host-controller driver as the first example. Another noteworthy driver-related development is the gained ability to access the modem on the Pinephone. Resolved the issue. I have made a package named genode-dev which you can check at https://notabug.org/sagaracharya/hyperbola_os . Steps to install. 1. Clone repo. 2. Go to directory of genode-dev. 3. makepkgOptional: If a dependency is not installed, go to that dependency's directory and use ../build.sh or makepkg You should be able to install it on systems with doas. It builds the toolchain which takes about 2.5 hours. To install on systems with sudo, edit genode-dev.install and remove SUDO=doas , use sha512sum genode-dev.install and update the sha512sums of PKGBUILD , and then use makepkg. Hey folks, I'm almost done with a PKGBUILD which would set up a Genode development environment for Arch like OSes. I'm facing the following error: ...installing tool chain to '/usr/local/genode/tool/21.05'... bash: line 1: sudo: command not found make: *** [tool/tool_chain:489: install] Error 127 Tool for preparing Genode build directories ... Hyperbola uses OpenBSD's doas. I guess Genode uses sudo. Can someone please patch this for doas too? Once it's completed, it can be used by users of Archlinux, Hyperbola, Parabola OSes. nova serial log output

Hello Genodians I have a UP Xtreme board on which I want to run Genode on. it has a Intel core i7 8xxx [1]. This platform only supports UEFI boot. Starting Sculpt on the device from an USB stick works. The main problem I have currently, is that I do not receive any serial output from the kernel. I also tested with other run scripts like `run/log`. The device has two physical interfaces (COM1 & COM2) that I have enabled and configured, in the BIOS, to use the default IO/IRQ values for PCs. If I start Ubuntu on the device with enabled serial console for GRUB2 and the kernel, I see the corresponding output on my `picocom` session. Do you have any suggestions what could be the cause? When starting to build your sel4 demo under the instructions of release note for 15.05 version: --------------------------------------------------------------- To give Genode a quick spin on the seL4 kernel, you may take the following steps: # Download the seL4 kernel !./tool/ports/prepare_port sel4 # Create a Genode build directory for seL4: !./tool/create_builddir sel4_x86_32 # Change to the build directory and start the _base/run/printf.run_ script: !cd build/sel4_x86_32 !make run/printf These steps did not work in the latest genode.git version or master, are there any more instructions for building genode on sel4 in master branch ? After the 15.05 version, there is no more information about this. Build errors while adding a new func to Region Map

Hi, I am using Genode with seL4 backend for my research. I am trying to add a new RPC method to RegionMap. It is meant as a simple exercise in understanding how the RPC framework in Genode works. The function name is "print_regions" and for now it does absolutely nothing. It takes in a void and returns a void. Unfortunately, I am running into some issues while adding this new RPC call to RM. I think I am missing something basic. First I ran into an issue where there was a mismatch between the ABI and library(3). I fixed it to the best of my ability and then got an error during library loading(4). Steps to reproduce and details of errors below. This was basically in classes that inherited Region_Map. 3. Then I made a change to repos/base/lib/symbols/ld to work around the following error: Error: size of '_ZTVN6Genode17Region_map_clientE' symbol violates ld ABI (72 bytes in ABI, 80 bytes in library) make[3]: *** [/home/siagraw/genode/repos/base/mk/lib.mk:244: ld-sel4.lib.checked] Error 255 make[2]: *** [var/libdeps:200: ld-sel4.lib] Error 2 I am least sure of this change. I am unsure if this is a file I should even be modifying for something as simple as adding a new RPC method. But I did change it to get past the build error. 4.
