Depot How-To Guide?

Hello, Does anyone have a simple step-by-step guide for the initial set-up of a new depot, and publishing a first package to it? I took a first try at this, mainly following "Genode Foundations" (and trying to document my steps, in the hope of writing a beginner's guide for Genodians.org). But I seem to be missing something, because the "publish" tool is giving me an error. This is obviously a simple process, so I thought I'd ask here first, before wasting time trying to reinvent the wheel. Thanks! -- John J. Karcher devuser(a)alternateapproach.com

Issue with running 19.05 on RPi3 hardware

Good afternoon everyone! I am currently trying to run Genode in 64bit mode on a Raspberry Pi 3 Model B (V1.2), therefore using the newest available Release (19.05) with the accompanying tool-chain, compiling it on a Ubuntu 18.04.2 machine. The compilation process configured for the "rpi3" board with the "foc" kernel completes without any issues and the resulting elf binaries can also be executed in QEMU (4.0.0), completing the hello_tutorial with full output and no issues. However when I try to use the same binary with the mentioned hardware [0] the output of the UART repeatably stops before the "Hello from Startup::stage2" message, which to me indicates that it can not successfully begin to execute the Kernel as in QEMU. Is this to be expected, related to the UART drivers, or am I missing something in the compilation/preparation process? If there is any additional information needed please tell me. [0]: using u-boot version 2019.07-rc4 for the rpi3, with "enable_uart=1", "arm_64bit=1" and the u-boot-nodtb.bin as a kernel in the config.txt; loading the image with "fatload mmc 0:1 ${scriptaddr} image.elf" and then executing it with "bootelf ${scriptaddr}" Thank you in advance, with best regards, Daniel Gunzinger.

Japanese Wikipedia article announced

Since the beginning of June, there's a Japanese translation of the English version of the Genode article in the Wikipedia [1]. This remembered me to again thank everyone who helped creating and maintaining all the Wikipedia articles about Genode! Your work is very much appreciated! The new Japanese version already looks complete and fitted out with all the enjoyable details. Nonetheless, I'd like to invite everyone familiar with the Japanese Language to have a look at it and maybe even contribute to it (For instance, the article yet references Genode 19.02 as latest release). Virtualizing Windows 10 on NOVA

I decided to virtualize Windows Server 2016 in hopes to promote a domain controller and for shits and giggles. It was a partial success! I followed Alex's instructions (thank you again, Alex) and the installation performed flawlessly. I was able to boot into the Server Manager. Unfortunately, the virtual machine was so incredibly slow so as to be completely unusable. I'll try to salvage as much log information as possible. I count this as a success :) Joel

Hello once again my friends :) I'm thinking about purchasing a new thinkpad for my father as a gift and virtualizing Windows 10 on Genode/NOVA (he's a Windows sysadmin). I've been studying the run scripts in the ports repo for vbox5 and Windows, but I'm getting no closer to understanding them. I'm usually a RTFM type of guy but I've really hit a wall here and I seem to be going in circles. What should I name the .iso, where should I put it, and what run script should I use? Genode on RPI - end of discovery stage

Hi everyone, I'd like to share with you information that finally I've managed to find out what was the reason of problems with networking on rpi 3b+ which I implemented (with help mostly from Stefan) during Hack'n'Hike. The important thing that we didn't notice during Hack'n'Hike was that packages that we were able to receive only broadcast messages, so only arp packets were received. That led me to debugging code that was supposed to set MAC address in the driver and after some digging I found in [1] information about a bug (later fixed) in this linux driver that caused not setting MAC address properly in some situations. Applying a change from this patch allowed to have usb_net test working. In the meantime I've checked that usb_block test also works (although seems to be quite slow) so I think I have generally working the most important devices to start again from the start and polish my work and try to prepare it for inclusion Genode repositories (probably I'll wait for a release). My current plan is to work on supporting with base-hw: - rpi3b+ 32bit - as 64bit support is not yet ready and 32bit version does not restrict using of this device - rpi2b - this one is armv7 so 32bit architecture and with regard to devices it is somewhere between rpi1 and rpi3b+ After discussion with Stefan during Hack'n'Hike I plan to move as much as possible of support for above versions to genode-world repository as Genode Labs plans to support in main genode repository and test: old rpi and new rpi3b (without +) 64bit. One thing I'd like to get some acceptance is a naming scheme for those SOCs/configurations. Especially for the 32 and 64 bit versions for one SOC. Will it be ok to have following naming for boards? - rpi3bplus32 (running 32 bit) - rpi3bplus (later; running native for armv8 64 bit instructions) - rpi2b - rpi3b - version that you have and plan to support Cheers Tomasz [1] https://lkml.org/lkml/2018/11/7/860

Empty inline files in vfs

Hi Genodians, I've noticed that reading an empty inline file crashes the vfs but only when this file is created by an <inline name="test"/> but not when it's created by an <inline name="test"></inline>. This can be demonstrated easily be noux's /bin/cat but seems to be true also with respect to other applications reading such files.
