Nix port

Hello list, This is a notice that I've cleaned up the Nix port and created a branch of the Genode master to test against. I've only managed to drive the toolchain part way to creating component binaries, but for now the problems seem to be in the domain of Noux. The core of the port has been defined, and the frontends are done, which is actually no frontend at all. There is the nix-repl for debugging and everything else can use server/nix, which generates ROMs and file system roots on demand. I have a branch 'nix' at https://github.com/ehmry/genode.git with a set of patches against master and an external repo at https://github.com/ehmry/genode-nix.git. The run scenarios 'nix_rom' and 'nix_fs' show how to setup routing to create ROM and file system roots on demand (but poor examples of Nix expressions). The scenario 'nix_toolchain' attempts to build binaries on demand, but I think I need to poke around in Noux to get it to run to completion. I have some examples for generating cli_monitor configurations, though I need to put together a full scenario to show how to route cli_monitor to make it work. https://github.com/ehmry/genode-nix/blob/master/expr/cli_monitor.nix The issue of fetching compiled packages to a live system is still outstanding, I have some ideas on the network protocol, but none on a binary signing scheme. I started on some write-up of the porting process but it will probably be more for people coming from NixOS than from Genode or those interested in making the language more cross-platform. SMP IRQ Affinity in L4android

Hi, everyone I want to move some interrupts to specified cpu core, but I encountered some difficulties. When I try to write to "/proc/irq/*/smp_affinity" with cpu bitmask, it will call the interface l4lx_irq_dev_set_affinity(), which locates in "pots-foc/src/lib/l4lx/l4lx_irq.cc". And I can see the printed log "switched irq * to cpu* ". However, in fact, it doesnot work, the irq is still staying on previous cpu core ( seeing "/proc/interrupts") . Please tell me how can I do, thank you so much!

Access to hardware registers

Hello Genodians, I have a program which needs access to some hardware registers. The Region Manager (RM) is complaining, because he cannot find the address. > no RM attachment (faulter fb710c with IP 36b614 attempts to write to address 43c00004) > How can I add this region? In the runscript as a config setting for RM? Add these addresses to the platform_support.cc? Or do I need a driver to gain access to these registers? Best regards, Jack

Doubts when preparing WebToolkit's port file

Hi Genode Community I'm preparing a port file for WebToolkit library. I have prepared the basic file to download the library, extract the source code and generate include files. I have an small problem with this library. This library is written in C++, but source files have .C extension. This library must be compiled with Qt support and .C files are recognized as C source file not C++. I need rename all .C files to .cpp. This can be done manually with this command line on the WebToolkit's source folder: find . -name "*.C" -exec rename 's/\.C$/.cpp/' '{}' \; I have tried something like this on the port file: LICENSE := GPLv2 VERSION := 3.3.5-rc2 DOWNLOADS := wt.archive ... CMD := `find . -name "*.C" -exec rename 's/\.C$/.cpp/' '{}' \;` default: ${CMD} But when prepare the port this not work. It give me this output: ... Substitution replacement not terminated at (user-supplied code). ... Somebody have any suggestion or any idea about how can i do this automatically on the port file? Best regards -- Lic. A short Nixcon talk

I gave a talk on friday at a NixOS conference on saturday about the nix port, its very brief, and I may have mispoke in a nervous rush at times, but I got some good questions after the talk session was over. Turmvilla scenario

Hi, With the previous Turmvilla scenario, I wish to setup two virtualbox sessions, one running LInux process and the other running Windows, concurrently. I created a new Win7 subsystem, emulating the LInux subsystem, with new vm_win7.vdi. However, I could startup only one of each sessions from NOUX, either Windows or Linux, but not both sessions at the same time. From CLI monitor, I could see that RAM is allocated separately for both sessions. I suspect some concurrency issue but could not find the issue. I've attached the log from captured from NOUX. Another issue I encountered is that the virtual box mouse pointer in the WIndows session and the Nitpicker mouse pointer can't seem to merge together unlike the Linux session where both pointers are merged. Any advise. Thanks in advance.

Troubles linking Wt library

Hi Genode Comunity I need porting a Qt4.8 application on GenodeOS. I'm using the old qt4 support on GenodeOS, and it's working fine with the examples. Now, my applications have another dependencies like WebToolkit (Wt) library. I'm working on the support of this library. I have followed the Porting Guide and have made some progress. Basically I have made a basic support of some Boost libraries needed to compile Wt: system, signals, random, date_time, regex and thread. These libraries compile fine on GenodeOS. I have tried to bring up the Wt library. To do this, i have reviewed the build log of the library. Best referance hardware at this point ?

Dear Fellow Genodians- Is a Lenovo Thinkpad x201 is still the best hardware platform for syncing up with other's who are working with Turmvilla <https://github.com/genodelabs/genode/issues/1552> ? or is there something more modern that leading edge Genodians are working hard to make into there prefured day to day use Genode platform ? In the longer run... I am intrested in running the Gneode OS on Snickerdoodle <http://makezine.com/2015/10/12/snickerdoodle-dev-board-fpga-arm-processor/> (Dual Core ARM_A9 as well as the Mips Creator Ci40 <http://www.theregister.co.uk/2015/10/20/imagination_technologies_creator_ci…> .. It would be great if we might be able to deliver Genode to run on these boards via the Snappy package update manager <http://www.linuxjournal.com/content/more-stable-future-ubuntu>.... any thoughts on this? am I dreaming in the right direction? -Peter

TrustZone: transfering information cross-world using interrupts

Hi, this is a follow-up question to an earlier thread [0] on this mailinglist regarding the injection of software interrupts from Genode into the normal world VM. The basic mechanism works fine, but we need to transfer some meta information with the interrupt to the normal world. One possible approach would be to write something to a certain location in the non-secure memory before triggering the interrupt and reading that location from Linux. Of course, a cross-world synchronization mechanism is required here to maintain the consistency of the reserved memory range. Another approach could use Linux's shared interrupts: Additional information can be transferred via the dev_id pointer passed to an interrupt handler.
