I tried to reproduce your issue and indeed, on a recent Qemu version
(for me 2.1.2) the vesa driver of the 13.02 Genode release will not work
anymore. We upgraded the x86emu library of Xorg (used by our vesa
driver) with Genode release 13.08 and starting from there the vesa
driver is working again for me.
So either you use some more recent Genode release (which we in general
advice) or you have to backport the x86emu changes by your own to the
Genode release you are using.
