For Genode, the NOVA version defined in nova.port and prepared by

  $(GENODE_DIR)/tool/ports/prepare_port nova

is mandatory and you will run into issues after the kernel bootstrap.
Also, the upstream version is rather old (last commit from Jul 2,
2014).
